CANDIDATE ID: 2559703

US CITIZENSHIP:

EDUCATION:

EXPERIENCE:

NATIONALITY: British

PROFESSIONAL OBJECTIVES: Image processing research/development in

general, optical computing and processing. My academic direction moved

from Software Engineering to Optical Pattern Recognition. Dont mind

working in either fields.

ACADEMIC DEGREES:

* Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D

.) in Optical Pattern Recognition.,

'Design and Simulation of Frequency Domain Filters for Optical

pattern Recognition', [in progress,

expected graduation : November

1998

].

University of Sussex,

Brighton, United Kingdom.

Research Profile: The two-dimensional correlation between a

reference template and a cluttered input scene containing the

reference object can be implemented by various coherent optical

processing architectures, which exploit the Fourier transforming

properties of lenses and the complex multiply capability of

holographically recorded filters. However, an unmodified matched

filter does not perform well for most pattern recognition tasks,

particularly for the orientation independent recognition of a

component while simultaneously maintaining discrimination against

a possibly very similar object. The research in progress is

developing methods to determine phase and amplitude frequency

domain distributions, together with suitable non-linear

thresholding functions, to improve the intra-class distortion

tolerance of correlation filters while maintaining inter-class

discrimination capabilities.

* Bachelor of Science (B.Sc

.) in Computer Science (July 1995)

Brunel University,

London, United Kingdom.

PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS:

Member of the Optical Society of America (OSA), The International

Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE), IEEE, IEE, the British

Computer Society (BCS) and the European Optical Society (EOS).

Received the Diploma of Professional Development in 1995, part of

the British Computer Society Professional Development Scheme

(PDS).

SOFTWARE SKILLS:

Good experience in using MATLAB, Application Development Workbench

(ADW) CASE tool, in particular Analysis and design workbenches.

Different Computer Applications inclusing Word-processing,

spreadsheets and Image processing software.

SELECTED PUBLICATION:

* L.S. Jamal-Aldin, R.C.D. Young and C.R. Chatwin, "Application of

non-linearity to wavelet transformed images to improve Correlation

Filter Performance", Applied Optics, Vol. 36 No. 35 pp 9212-9224,

WORK EXPERIENCE:

18 months assisting in software development of a banking system on IBM

AS/400. Work involved using the Analysis and design tools of the

Knowledgeware Application Development Workbench (ADW) Computer

Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tool.

HOBBIES:

Enjoy travelling, drawing, reading, and music.
