PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Holyoke Community College, 303 Homestead Avenue, Holyoke, Massachusetts
1995-Present Instructor of Mathematics
I conscientiously compose syllabi that reflect the college requirements and takes into account the wide diversity of students enrolled in my classes. In addition to this I excel at reviewing choosing texts that accomplish the same goals as the syllabus. Further, I teach these classes which requires both skill and expertise to achieve student success. Creating and grading exams requires my well honed capabilities and knowledge to insure each student has both the optimal learning environment and sufficient erudition of the material when the course is complete. I have applied my expertise to a wide range of courses including Basic Math, Introductory/Intermediate/College Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Statistics, Matrices and Linear Programming and Applied Calculus. I have also dexterously instructed a Topics in Mathematics class which included a variety of topics including problem solving, set theory, logic, probability, statistics, properties of sets of numbers, infinity, and topology.
* I effectively instructed Topics in Mathematics course for three intersession class periods. This involved four hour classes, Monday through Thursday, for a two week period. Teaching a college level course under these constraints while sustaining the interest of the students is a challenge. Almost all students (98% of those initially enrolled) successfully completed the course.
* I strive to construct a learning environment that is stimulating, challenging and creative which will empower each student with the knowledge that they are capable of learning and using mathematics.
2000-2004 Self Paced Mathematics Instructor
2003-2004 Coordinator of Self Paced Mathematics Program
Self Paced Mathematics Program allowed students to work outside the traditional classroom setting by essentially working on the course enrolled in as an independent study with self-scheduled exams. I achieved successful completion rates for the courses that were adapted to this format; Basic Mathematics, Introductory/Intermediate/College Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Statistics, and Applied Calculus. This educational system included creating multiple exams for each course, answering questions from individuals at various stages of each course, and monitoring 80+ students over an assortment of six month periods.
* These course required versatility, adaptability and organization both on my part and the students enrolled. The program allowed me to connect with individual students over a six month period and to design each course to reflect the student`s unique abilities and situation.
* As coordinator I initiated an online component for each course, carefully choose texts that allowed a participant to move from one course to the next, and streamlined the entire process to reflect the growing population of students enrolled.
* The program allowed me to integrate my skills (mathematics, advising, and retention efforts) and allowed students to work to their full potential.
