Student Teacher (Intern) for Allen ISD- 01/24/2011-05/06/2011
-My student teaching experience consisted of 14 weeks of elementary and middle school training. For my first seven weeks of student teaching I was with 4th grade students at Olson Elementary in Allen ISD. The subject matter I planned and taught was social studies, reading, and writing. My second placement was with 8th grade students at Ereckson Middle School in Allen ISD. The subject matter I planned and taught was science which included introductions into: chemistry, physics, biology, and physical science. Both placements gave me the opportunity for in depth learning/experience of the district, students, curriculum, and classroom management.
Key Contributions:
Earned high marks/comments for the quality of classroom teaching, lesson plans and instructional materials used in teaching diverse subjects (e.g., language arts, math, science, social studies and history).
Developed innovative approaches that were held as the model standard for meeting district goals in areas including technology integration across the curriculum, experiential learning, literacy and diversity.
Taught general education students and individuals with learning challenges within a mainstreamed, inclusive classroom.
Consistently commended for ability to redirect students exhibiting behavior problems by replacing disruptive, unproductive patterns with positive behaviors.

PTA Board Volunteer, 08/2009-12/2010
-Served on the PTA board for my daughter s elementary school for a few years before beginning my student teaching. During this time, I was able to help plan and fundraise events for the school as well as the students. I also was a part of the Art to Go team that traveled classroom to classroom in the elementary school to educate the students on specific art pieces as well as art history.
Observation/Practicum, 08/2008-12/2010
-Completed practicums and observations with the following schools: Strickland Middle School, (Denton ISD) Curtis Middle School, (Allen ISD) Hawk Elementary, (Denton ISD) and Hodge Elementary (Denton ISD). While teaching and planning lessons for each district I was able to work closely with grades 4-8, teach/plan for ELR, science, and TAKS tutoring. While working with students at Hodge Elementary, I was given the opportunity to assess and tutor students that had failed the TAKS reading portion or those that had previously been retained. The student I tutored and assessed took the TAKS writing and passed with a score above 80 percentile after 4 months of in depth drilling, assessing, and the use of teaching reading strategies.
