SUMMARY
7 years of experience designing, developing, and leading solutions for clients
in financial, retail, manufacturing, computer services, and travel industries.
Extensive practical knowledge of architecturing business systems based on
object-oriented concepts and following client/server / multi-tier design
principles. Experience in building such systems in e-commerce and m-commerce
domain.
WORK EXPERIENCE
September 1999
- PresentConsultant
Pepsi Americas
Rolling Meadows, IL
* Designed and lead development of Mobile Order Management system for the
clients field sales personnel. This application is based on a 4-tier
architecture. VC++/VB client runs on PPC, HPC Pro, and Pocket PC Windows CE
devices. Server side is implemented with Java Servlets and common Java database
service. JSP/HTML/CSS/JavaScript based UI. To ensure scalability, information
from the client is queued for processing by a Java-based daemon. Client/server
data exchange is done in XML over HTTP with support for both wireless and wired
connections. The system has been rolled out across the country in 50 locations
and is estimated to save $7.5 million annually. Order throughput has averaged
1400 orders per day.
* Designed and developed Tel-Sell Order system to process and manage orders
received via locations call centers. The application was prototyped in about a
month and implemented using Servlets on the back-end and JHTML based front-end
utilizing JavaScript, CSS, XML, and XSLT.
* Developed a bid-winning prototype of mobile and desktop browser based order
maintenance system. This prototype was done using Windows DNA technologies.
VB/HTML front-end communicated through IIS/ASP with MTS hosted VB/C++ COM
components outputting XML data. XSLT was utilized for data transformations.
December 1998
- September 1999Consultant
Alternative Resources Corporation
Lincolnshire, IL
* Leading developer participating in design, development, and implementation of
Commission Calculation and Maintenance system. This project was initiated to
accommodate new commission payment structure and ensure the new system is
adequately flexible to allow for possible adjustments in the future. The
application interfaced with PeopleSoft's payroll and billing systems. Studied
PeopleSoft's data model. Developed calculator engine COM component. It is
instantiated via DCOM by VB front-end. On average the system processed 15,000
commission records every month.
September 1997
- December 1998Consultant
Chicago Mercantile Exchange
Chicago, IL
* Designed and lead development of document management system. This application
is used by the Regulatory department to process brokerage firms' accounts
information. The application is based on a 3-tier architecture: VB GUI, COM
components in the middle, and an Oracle back-end. Utilized Crystal Reports
initially and later Active Reports to generate statements.
* Designed and developed Party/Accounts database explorer application - a 3-tier
client/server system for the Regulatory department. This application presents a
hierarchical view of major database entities with support for browsing, editing
and OLE integration.
September 1997
- December 1997Consultant
(parallel project)
Pepsi-Cola General Bottlers
Chicago, IL
* Played key role in prototyping sales system for Pepsi-Cola General Bottlers
newly acquired location in St. Petersburg, Russia. The system was developed as
a 3-tier bilingual application and featured custom ActiveX controls, abstracted
data access tier, and tight integration with SQL Server through a number of
stored procedures.
March 1997
- September 1997Consultant
Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) Deerfield, IL
* For the State of Illinois participated in design and development of financial
aid management system for colleges, universities, and certified banks. This
client/server application was written in CA Visual Objects and it tracks and
processes student demographics, complete loan and/or grant information, lender
records, and other financial data. Personally responsible for the development
of loan management modules.
June 1995
- March 1997Project Leader / Systems Architect
A. M. Castle & Co
. Franklin Park, IL
* Managed a team of three in an effort to design and develop COMPASS process
scheduling system for the corporation's metal processing facility. COMPASS
identifies required operations and the time of each one. It then checks
corresponding machine capacities and other constraints. This application was
developed as a cross-platform 3-tier system involving complex scheduling logic
and mainframe connectivity. Technologies used included VB 4.0, Visual C++,
Gupta SQL Server 6.1, and HLLAPI interfaces.
* Enhanced and maintained radio frequency warehouse management system. This
system completely automated inventory tracking, material movement, and provided
links to the mainframe. Responsible for automating physical inventory,
providing sheet and pipe material tracking capabilities, ABC location codes
development, RF troubleshooting, user interface modifications, and general
maintenance of about 30,000 lines of code. Developed on both RF devices and PC
clients. Technologies used included Visual C++, Symbol SDK, C-Tree, and HLLAPI
interfaces.
* Developed stock options manager for the legal department. The application
tracks employees eligible for stock options and option plans. It allows for
options to be exercised, manages splits, and generates reports. Technologies
used included Visual C++ and C-Tree.
* Upgraded and administered home office LAN. As part of that managed technical
team of 4 and made budgeting decisions. Initiated and lead a project to improve
LAN reliability and response time by utilizing intelligent hubs, switches, and
FDDI technology.
December 1992
- October 1994Application Developer / Systems Administrator
Sunpass Holidays and Presidential Travel & Tours Chicago, IL
* Designed and developed travel reservations database. This application tracks
clients, hotel and car rental reservations as well as resort information. Hotel
and car rental rates are imported from a spreadsheet. The application generates
a number of reports and tour itineraries. Technologies used included Paradox
(PAL) 4.0/5.0.
* Performed user, hardware, and software support. Maintained SCO UNIX serial
network.
