Assignment History
United Parcel Service (UPS) 06/200910/2010Senior Developer / Technical Lead / Architectural Consultant
Responsible for performing as a technical lead, leading a team of US and Global staff for
the technical aspects of a VB6 to VB.NET Windows Application Migration. I was responsible
for consulting with the UPS architectural team in developing a new multi-tier framework
and approach for migration of a VB6 application. A Phase development / release approach
was requested by UPS. It was recommended that Microsoft s Interop Toolkit would be used to
allow migrated .NET components and forms to work seamlessly with the existing VB6
application. This allowed for a Phase migration and deployment approach.
I also performed as a technical lead for a team of global developers giving Knowledge
transfer session, creating white papers and documentation and giving technical guidance
from QA sessions and code reviews. The global team would interface with me weekly to
address any questions or technical struggles faced during migration.
I also performed as a Senior Developer. UPS had used many 3rd party form controls in the
VB6 application and wanted to replace these functionalities with their own .NET written
custom controls. I was responsible for the design, coding, maintenance and documentation
of these custom user controls which included custom data grids, print engine, custom
panels, labels, buttons and filtered text boxes.
I was also responsible for mapping out, documenting and prototyping an approach to
replace the VB6 oracle database access of oracle objects (oo4o) with either ADO.NET or
ODP.NET. I worked to create a well-documented and easy approach to replace oo4o with
ODP.NET.
Maersk Line Inc. (Maersk Sealand) 12/2004 05/2009
Application Architecture, Development and Support
Responsible for leading a team of US and Global staff for the technical aspects of the
system support and development. Specific components include analysis, design, development,
testing, and ongoing support for application systems. Built strong functional teams
through knowledge transfer, diverse assignments and mentoring. Identify key resource
conflicts and negotiate resolution across projects. Ensure technical design of project and
baseline work is in accordance with Architecture. Utilize reuse and component build where
applicable. Enforce the utilization of accepted methodology & tools in a disciplined
manner.
I was responsible for architecting, designing and developing new .NET based software
applications and support tools as well as specifying and identifying enhancements to
current software application used by Maersk Line s customer resource centers.
The applications I supported include web application, windows application, web services,
windows services and telephony applications written in Microsoft .NET 2.0 and 3.5.
I worked closely with IBM outsourcing development teams to implement these projects. I
was responsible for analyzing business requirements and providing the development team
with software specifications.
I developed a reusable web based software framework for use in building applications for
Maersk. This application framework helped Maersk reduce costs by allowing them to perform
certain maintenance function themselves. It also reduced costs by reducing development
time allowing developers to reuse common components and easily implement security,
performance tracking and audit tracking features into modular functions.
I also developed and implemented some of the first web services used my Maersk Customer
Resources Centers. These web services allow custom applications to easily integrate the
ability to send emails, faxes, retrieve data and log task data.
Maersk Inc. 06/200412/2004Development and Support
Responsibilities include daily support and ongoing enhancements to software applications
used by Maersk Sealand s customer resource centers. This work primarily focuses on asp.net
web applications using a Microsoft SQL backend. Additionally responsible for mentoring
fellow programmers who wish to learn the Microsoft .NET platform.
I was put on this project specifically for my knowledge of .NET and knowledge of portal
type applications to help transition and support a new product being written for Maersk by
another consulting company.
Various Clients
02/200206/2004Software Consultant / Architect / Developer
I was a
self-employedconsultant and promoted my business as strictly a .NET development
company. I worked the full life cycle of projects with my clients.
I worked for many difference clients developing many different software packages for
their needs. These include:
1) A Scouting Application used by a major league baseball team. The application functions
as an Enterprise Information Portal where Pro Scouts, Amateur Scouts, Athletic Trainers
and Team Physicians employed by the organization access various program modules pertaining
to players (from amateur status to pro), physical injuries and treatments. Phase 1 is now
complete, which consists of modules for Pro Scouting and Team Scouting reports with full
motion video incorporated. This project is scheduled to consist of at least 5 phases, with
each one adding further functionality and integration with Major League Baseball
headquarters and their central data repository for player statistical data.
2) Developed a multi-lingual VB.NET / ASP.NET portal application with a SQL Server
backend. This application functions as an Enterprise Information Portal where Athletic
Trainers and Team Physicians employed by major sports teams and universities track their
athletes physical injuries, treatments, progress, medications and view their digital x-
rays online via the web and PDA mobile devices. The program was demonstrated to Major
League Baseball teams at spring training of 2003. It was also presented at the NATA
(National Athletic Trainers Association) show in June 2003. The product is currently up
and running with approximately 50 sports teams and universities.
3) Development of a multi-tier ASP.Net portal application utilizing a SQL Server 2000
backend. The application functions as an intranet/extranet portal application that is used
for web based maintenance and monitoring of commercial building security and access
control systems. This application connected to various clients security systems via an
RS232 to Ethernet adapter to allow security system monitoring and changes.
4) Developed a web based system for trouble ticket tracking for the small-to-medium sized
enterprise. It can be used for customer support, bug tracking, trouble ticketing, or any
other purpose for which a group of people need to keep track of a list of tasks. It
features a number of technologies designed to make it easy to keep track of a large number
of tasks, issues and projects. This was used to hook into many of my clients applications
via web services to allow the applications to automatically report troubles and open
trouble tickets.
5) Developed an inventory, shipping & receiving, warehousing application built on the
asp.net platform. It allowed the client to track inventory currently in the warehouse,
create pick slips, bills of lading and delivery invoices. It would automate monthly
storage billing either emails or faxes invoices. Reporting on inventory can be filtered by
client, product, make, color, model and either printed or emailed from the system. Later,
a windows based version of this application was developed that could be run internally
without external access but could also be used externally with an accessible SQL Database.
