Corporate Director, Environment, Health and Safety

Led the Global EHS organization of an $8 billion aerospace and defense manufacturer with facilities in the US, Europe, Asia, Mexico and Brazil (Six direct reports and 110 dotted line reports)

- Developed overall Goodrich EHS strategy, goals and programs and introduced risk management tools. Injury trends have been downward for 6 years (2006 to 2011) with a 36% decrease in recordable injuries and a 24% decrease in lost work injuries.

- Led over 25 EHS management systems and regulatory audits that helped sites understand their compliance status and allowed the enterprise EHS Team to get first-hand experience with site EHS issues and an accurate assessment of site EHS performance.

- Partnered with the Quality Organization to develop and implement a combined Quality and EHS management system and select a single enterprise registrar to increase efficiency and performance while significantly decreasing transaction and auditing costs ($1M annual savings).

- Played a major role in the Goodrich cross-functional team that developed the strategy, standards and tools for cost-effective REACH compliance. Worked with Engineering to support EHS in design (with a focus on greener materials) and prevention of pollution. Goodrich has not experienced any REACH related product shipment interruptions.

- Initiated a project to improve chemical management systems (including the use of an integrated chemical supplier) in order to increase compliance and save $1M per year on chemical services.

- Enhanced EHS Performance by initiating a partnership with Human Resources to use workforce planning tools to develop existing site EHS professionals and improve recruiting of new EHS professionals.

- Ensured that the Enterprise EHS team and the Business EHS Leaders all became Lean Practitioner Certified to better integrate EHS into the Goodrich Operating System.

Recruited by the Director of Toxicology and Environmental Health and Safety to work independently and to oversee small teams of engineers and technicians.

- Conducted environmental, health and safety audits, performed indoor air quality assessments, completed industrial hygiene monitoring, and developed OSHA and EPA compliance documents and reports that added value for the client. Notable projects included an evaluation of mold abatement activities and the provision of clearance sampling in an elementary school, and EHS compliance audits encompassing health and safety, air, waste and water at multiple sites. Following audit completion prepared and issued reports and supported corrective action.

- Selected to lead the Strategic Environmental Management team in developing client risk management programs encompassing performance-based environmental management systems, pollution prevention programs and the integration of EHS processes into business operations.

- Through a series of promotions, elevated to GE's executive level and the highest EHS position in Medical Systems (1994).

- Oversaw teams that conducted annual air, water, waste and safety audits in each facility, reported findings, and ensured correction of program deficiencies. Initiated a supplier auditing program to reduce company risks and achieved the goal of -no major compliance findings- when averaging 15 inspections per year from 1996 to 2000. - Supported business development by performing and/or reviewing numerous Phase I environmental assessments and compliance reviews for facilities in Eastern and Western Europe, the US, Asia and Mexico during an eight-year period of dramatic growth through acquisitions, and completed the prompt EHS integration of these new acquisitions.

- Spearheaded an EHS team that completed 61 process improvement projects in a 2-year period. Pollution prevention and Six Sigma projects saved $1 million during this period.

- Achieved "Star" status for several (more than 15) GE facilities under the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program.

- Created and implemented a cost effective material safety data sheet (MSDS) database to support compliance efforts.

- Integrated EHS milestones into the product development process to improve the environmental attributes of products and trained the engineers in design for the environment (DfE) techniques. Increased the ease of disassembly and recycling of the products to improve their serviceability and make the product recycling/resale business more profitable.

- Launched an integrated chemical supplier program that, in addition to reducing inventory costs and decreasing chemical costs, minimized the regulatory risk by reducing quantities of stored chemicals. Saved $250,000 annually by reducing inventories and lowering stored chemical costs.

- Partnered with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to reintroduce an endangered species (Trumpeter Swan) in the Mid-West, resulting in excellent community relations.
