Derek Gilby, CFT
abouvb@r.postjobfree.com
I am an advanced IT/GIS/Forest technologist specializing in GIS for the Forest Protection
field. I also have over 16 years experience in Natural Resource Management. Being a self-
motivated team player with a commitment to customer service, I have enclosed my resume for
your review.
As GIS Project Manager for a multi-million dollar Mountain Pine Beetle Project, for the
Willmore Wilderness Park, I developed solid skills in project management, meeting
deadlines with minimal support, and in creating productive and collaborative working
relationships with colleagues, internal and external clients, and various levels of
government. Excellent analytical skills, abstract thinking, the propensity to think beyond
the problem and provide solid solutions have been the key to my success.
While attaining an Advanced GIS Diploma from the Center of Geographic Sciences (COGS) and
a Programmer Network Support Analyst Diploma from CDI College, I learned how to
successfully design applications from user requirements which included project
feasibility, costs, and risks into GIS design and specifications. To complement this
valuable education, I am also currently obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Computing and
Information Systems from Athabasca University.
I possess a wide range of cartographic skills and an aptitude for working with old
documents and maps, knowledge of basic principles in photogrammetry, map projections and
land surveying. I have the ability to adapt to changing technologies and methodologies, as
well as the ability to write policies and procedures for Geographic Information Systems.
I look forward to further discussing any opportunities and I am confident my experience
and knowledge will be of direct benefit to your operations and objectives. I can be
reached at abouvb@r.postjobfree.com. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Derek Gilby, CFT, (Certified Forest Technologist)
