Professional Experience:
-
October 1997 - NowHewlett Packard - Email Customer Support Associate
I worked with a Support Engineer to create a pilot email program for
the Corporate Desktop Division. We created process and applications to
help build our support team.
-
September 1995 - October 1997Hewlett Packard - Telephone Customer Support Associate
For the first two years I was a phone support agent for the Corporate
Desktop PCs (Vectra, Kayak). Software/Hardware troubleshooting for HP
customers was the primary focus
-
October 1994 - September 1995Great West Life Assurance - Junior Production Coordinator
My primary role was to maintain a pool tape-drives serving the Great
West mainframe programmers. The programmer would ask for a specific
tape and the request was sent to one of 32 LEDs above a tape drive and
I mounted the corresponding tape.
Daily collection of used tapes for off-site archival was my secondary
role.
Skill Set:
? 10+ years with Intel-based 386-Pentium II PCs
? 10+ years DOS/Windows 3.x
? 4 Years of troubleshooting x86 PCs in a Microsoft Corporate PC
environment.
? 5 Years of Linux administrative experience
? 4 Years Windows 9x/NT
? 4 years PERL/HTML Development
? 2 years ASP/Access Development
I have in-depth knowledge of most Intel-based hardware installation,
configuration, and general troubleshooting. The combination of my 12+
year background in computers, coupled with the 4 years of technical
support for HP Corporate PCs; I am confident in my abilities to solve
most any hardware issue that arises in a workstation environment. This
includes SCSI/IDE peripherals, most aspects of networking, Video
devices, and general system board components.
I am very comfortable with Linux, Windows NT 4.0 Workstation, Windows
9X, and DOS/WFW 3.1x. I have had experience with Windows NT 4.0
Server, DEC Ultrix, and Novell Networks.
I have a strong background in PERL, UNIX shell scripts, HTML, and ASP.
Education:
2 years of college that focused on a CS-degree. I have plans to
return to school starting in the spring of 2000. I plan to continue my
pursuit of a CS-degree, in conjunction with a Mathematics minor.
Accomplishments:
? Development of pilot email program for the US Corporate PC Group.
I co-developed the support infrastructure for the Corporate PC Email
group. I worked with a support engineer to create custom processes and
documentation. The group started out answering 20 emails/day growing
up to the current number of 100 /day. I created custom reports using
SQL, Access, and ASP to allow everyone in our Division to view.
I also created PERL/CGI scripts to allow for dynamic volume tracking.
Using the Apache Web Server, I created scripts to allow for incoming
volume tracking as well as incoming content searches. This permitted
remote visitors, such as our Division, to view daily volume as well as
search the archives for relevant issues.
? Further development of the email project. We switched from our
custom database to a more robust, HP-wide software package called
Kana. I was responsible for re-creating the category structure to
allow for tracking and reporting on specific customer issues and
trends.
I also developed Custom SQL statements for use with monthly reporting.
Kana provided a very limited set of reporting queries. I needed to
expand upon these queries to allow Kana to provide the same amount of
reporting data that our old database did.
? Content Creation for our the HP PC Support Intranet
Creation of an Online Shipment Form to allow the Loveland Call Center
to discontinue use of it's paper method for shipping components. This
online web page used ASP to directly interface an Access database that
allows our shipping contacts to better track customer requests.
Development of product specific HTML Pages to help cut down call time
for the phone support staff. I developed charts/tables detailing
differences and similarities between PC and web pages built to mimic
our BIOS screens.
UNIX Shell scripts to aide our IT staff in maintaining their
production servers. Using Sed/Awk to process usage information on a
cluster of J-class UNIX workstations to provide a succinct report.
? Installation and configuration of a Linux based server to act as a
resource server for our support staff. It uses Samba and remote X
sessions to integrate itself with our NT infrastructure. The server
provides seamless file storage access for our NT users while allowing
our UNIX support staff the freedom to utilize the server as a
troubleshooting resource.
? Starting in 1998, I have acted as a PERL consultant for two Internet
startup companies. I developed custom PERL scripts to meet their
individual needs. One company needed a method to track email addresses
for use with monthly newsletters. While the other needed a utility to
locate sites with similar content and catalogue the results to help
generate business.
? In 1994 I converted my Community College's 50+PC NetWare-centric lab
into one that revolved around UNIX and Linux workstations. I developed
a deployment strategy to allow for the remote re-building of the OS
via an ftp-install if a reinstall was needed.
