PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Johnson & Johnson Ortho Clinical Diagnostics (Rochester, NY)

Sr. Software Test/Validation Engineer 2010 a 2011

Successfully designed, conducted and coordinated test procedures on and protocols on schedule for SQA validation & verification of CellSearch blood analyzer software and hardware. Integrated new software into hardware platform. System enumerates blood borne circulating cancer cells to assess prognosis of patient treatment. Experienced in FDA regulated - cGMP environment.

ITT Space Systems Division (Rochester, NY)

Sr. Image Quality Engineer and Principal Investigator (PI) - Image Science Center 2004 a 2009

Customized new image modeling tool for a very high resolution earth surveillance imaging system, to conduct sensor design, optics and operational tradeoffs for the next generation system. Allows for very flexible adaptation by new, less experienced engineers.

PI for Proprietary Project: Supervised team to switch a high resolution above ground image system to employ new image format in 4 spectral bands. Optimized tone, color, contrast, noise and mitigated visual artifacts. Designed software to compare statistical differences between extremely large high resolution images from the new and legacy systems. Designed and executed visual evaluation study on very short schedule to mitigate unexpected design errors by partner contractors. Provided guidance to improve image quality in operational system in time for scheduled transition to key strategic resource.

PI for Product Quality Comparison Study: Identified attributes, collected images, performed simulations, designed/conducted visual evaluation to quantify visibility of differences between PQ specs and actual performance for multiple spectral sensors. Wrote simulation IDL code for uniformity, band/streaking, and noise. Designed & executed visual Evaluation Plan.

PI for Banding/Streaking Study: Resolved unresolved issues in a special requirements document for banding and streaking artifacts in several spectral bands for future aabove grounda high resolution imaging systems. Designed Visual Evaluation Plan tor combinations of dark noise and exposure employing trained evaluators to assess visible thresholds for the artifacts.

PI for Night Vision Modeling project. Developed and delivered, on schedule, a model that incorporated the responsivity, noise, and MTF effects of all elements of a 3rd GEN Image Intensifier Tube imaging system, including photocathode, multichannel plate, phosphor screen, fiber optic bundle and CCD imager. Model was successfully used in a research program.

Eastman Kodak Company (Rochester, New York)

Sr. Image Science/Quality Engineer - Image Engineering & Simulation Lab 1997 - 2004

Lead image QA engineer for state-of-art and low cost minilab programs. Developed & implemented color & spatial management including calibration, color profiles incorporating new technology into a novel, low cost reflective LCD print engine. Designed & conducted psychophysical studies to confirm system image quality. Reconfigured image path to satisfy Chinese market preference.

First implementation of custom proprietary image digital rendering framework into a very low cost minilab photo printer and first system qualified for Kodak Perfect Touch brand. Successfully rescued on-line retail solution by revising the scanner processing path.

Analyzed and corrected numerous problems with the color and sharpening on the Professional Division Cruise Imaging Photo System.

Proved through a study, that generic color ICC profiles were preferable to customized profiles for printing from 3rd party consumer digital cameras.

Created reference path simulation and verification for the ASIC image processor used in new consumer desktop video camera, including: fixed pattern, defect correction, white balance, gamma correction, color rotation, paxalization, and DPCM compression a resulting in the correction of ASIC design errors.

Sr. Product QA Engineer Consumer Imaging 1993a 1996

Systems and current engineering responsibility for Picturemaker retail print kiosks. Substantially reduced defects per unit by 30 % by creating a new QA process to find root cause of defects, and produced thorough process documentation and training manufacturing and field service personnel.

Created requirements and procedures for qualifying CD readers/writers and operating systems for the Photo CD brand, including streaming audio. Coordinated SW resources to create code for the tests and worked with OEM vendors of CD hardware and drivers to qualify their products for use of the PhotoCD brand logo.

Sr. Development Engineer Federal Systems Div - Electro-optics Lab 1990 a 1993

Defined and analyzed system performance requirements for submarine periscope hi-resolution CCD camera. Designed test stands and wrote software to measure and analyze image data.

Analyzed requirements and designed major components of the development and manufacturing test set for IR camera including IR sources, targets, optics, cryogenics and software. Designed & optimized perceptible temperature difference model.

Field tested and performed data analysis on IR focal plane cameras for missile seeker applications.
