Biography

Dr LEUNG CHUN FAI is a professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the National

University of Singapore. He has been a staff member of the department since April 1981.

Professor Leung graduated from the University of Liverpool with B Eng in 1977 and Ph.D in

1981. His Ph.D research topic is centrifuge model study of vertical anchors.

Professor Leung has taught courses in geotechnical engineering, pile foundations, rock

mechanics and geotechnical investigation and monitoring. He has published many technical

papers in international journals and conferences covering topics such as centrifuge

modelling of geotechnical problems, pile foundations, land reclamation and excavation in

jointed rocks. Professor Leung is the Chairman of International Society for Soil Mechanics

and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) Technical Committee TC2 on Geotechnics of Physical

Modelling and Centrifuge Testing and serves on the Editorial Board of several journals. He

also delivered invited lectures at several international conferences.

Professor Leung is a registered professional engineer in Singapore and a chartered civil

engineer in UK. He has served as a geotechnical consultant for many government and private

organisations involving projects in Singapore and the region on pile foundations, land

reclamation, seafront wharf structures, anchored retaining wall, centrifuge model testing,

slope stability, soil settlement and erosion studies.

Professor Leung is also actively involved in promoting continuing engineering education

and professional development. Since 1997, he has been the Chairman of the Professional

Activities Committee of the Faculty of Engineering. Under his leadership, the Faculty has

firmly established itself as a leading continuing engineering education provider in

Singapore. Professor Leung is a Council Member of the International Association for

Engineering Education (IACEE).
