UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH/FIELDWORK EXPERIENCE
Title: Geology & hydrogeochemistry of Uduma, Enugu, Southeastern Nigeria.
Purpose: To map the area, describe the geology. examine,describe field relationships of rocks encountered
and do a hydrochemical studies/analysis of both surface and underground water of the area determining
the quality of water if its good for domestic or industrial consumption.
Methodology:
Geomorphology of the study area.
The method of study i ncluded a reconnaissance study using the topographic and geologic
maps to identify key formations and their stratigraphic/structural relationship, drainage maps
to know pattern and direction of flow, surface geologic and hydrogeologic studies with use
of base maps to locate and study outcrop in details, study of biogenic, sedimentary
structures and water samples which were subjected to hydrochemical analysis.
The Regional Geologic setting; Regional Tectonic and Stratigraphic setting.
Detailed description of various lithologic units encountered (Sandstone,Shale and Limestone)
Petrographic studies and interpretation
Environmental Indication/provenance.
Study of the hydrogeologic potential of the area involving a detailed appraisal of the
surface and underground water in the mapped area.
Hydrochemical analysis of water samples/Piper’s diagram
Results and analysis
Analysis using WHO Guidelines for water quality.
