Vice President of Development

As Vice President of Development, responsible for assisting the President, Executive Vice President and program staff in raising money to support the non-grant funded programs and initiatives of the organization. Expanding the base by identifying new corporate and individual’s donors and creating strategic partnerships.

Resource Development

• Raised over 1.1 million in corporate giving toward NAPWA’s national and local programs and initiatives

• Established the fundraising framework for the organization’s 30th Anniversary Celebration (2013)

Strategic Partnerships

• Collaborated with OraSure Technologies to establish a Twelve Cities project to increase HIV testing by 10% by year end 2013

• Collaborated with Gilead Sciences on NWPA’s signature project National HIV Testing Day 2011/2012, 2012 National Healthy Living Summit and the National Red Ribbon Dress Auction in conjunction with World AIDS Day 2012.

• Partnered with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS on NWPA’s National AIDSWatch event 2011/2012

• Secured major funding from Janssen Therapeutics and ViiV Healthcare toward NAPWA’s overall programs and initiatives 2011/2012.

Special Events

• Organized NAPWA’s premier presence at the 2012 International AIDS Conference, held in Washington, DC

• Structured and oversaw a special event fundraiser for NAPWA’s night at the Arena Stage Theatre for the showing of Larry Kramer’s national play “A Normal Heart” during the 2012 International AIDS Conference.

• Planned fundraising events to include, a silent auction, dance party and advertisement for the program journal for NAPWA’s National Gay Men’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day 2011/2012 which netted $20,000 after expenses.

United Way of National Capitol Area (UWNCA), Washington, DC, 2008-2010

Area Director- Washington, DC Region

The responsibility of the Area Director was to manage the multi-million dollar portfolios of the corporate, associations, attorneys and labor divisions. Managing “The DC One Fund”, Washington, DC’s charitable workplace giving campaign was also part of the Area Director’s responsibilities. The Area Directors’ role was also to energize, inspire and prove leadership to a team of seven fundraisers charged with meeting and/or exceeding the fundraising goals set for each division. It was expected that the Area Director would create and maintain excessing strategic partnerships within the DC region.

• The following division goals were achieved over and beyond the set goals: Washington, DC corporate goal, $5.4M; Attorneys, $960K; Association, $1.6M; Labor, $750K (2008-2009)

• The DC One Fund was $1.5M which was in excess of the goal established (2008-2009)

• Successfully recruited and managed a team of ten hard working dedicated team of fundraiser whose work ensured that we exceed all division goals.

• Provided leadership to local community leaders who chaired and made corporate calls on their respective division accounts.

• Partnered with selected individuals in their respective divisional accounts to assist them in conducting a successful United Way campaign in their organization.

The Vice President and Director in the Community and Public Sector division was responsible for assisting local United Ways in expanding their resource development base and expanding their fundraising programs in the private and public sectors. Create and refresh all resource development training courses and materials as well as identify and train course leaders. Maintain and strengthen relationships between the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and United Way of America (UWA). Lead collaborations with other national non-profits and for-profit organizations, increasing exposure and market share for United Way of America.

Resource Development

• Provided leadership through consultation, conferences, management, curriculum design and training to local United Ways in order for them to rise over $4.0 billion plus in 2005 from $ 3.24 in 1996 a 23.46% increase.

• Provided leadership in raising $5 million for United Way of America and national non-profits partners in the Combined Federal Campaign.

• Managed co-marketing project with Tickets for Charity and raised $100k plus for Hurricane Katrina victims.

• Secured $25,000 Charitable Gift Annuity for Southeastern Connecticut United Way

• Created and launched a Resource Development Online Toolkit-library for the United Way system.

• Developed concept and coordinated the creation of the first animated national United Way campaign video, produced by United Way of America’s video production team.

Human Resource Management/Team Leader

• Recruited, mentored, coached and lead a six member resource development and administrative team.

Volunteer Recruitment and Training

• Developed and executive meeting plans and staffed United Way of America’s board appointed Resource Development Committee, an oversight committee charged with creation and implementation of strategic plans to assist local United Ways in increasing their financial revenue.

• Coordinated best practices conferences and trainings targeted toward Community and Major Gift Campaign Chairs, whose local United Way raised $25 million or greater. (Executive Campaign Chair’s Roundtable). Personally revamp and wrote the forward to the Executive Campaign Chairs’ Handbook, which currently is still being used by local United Ways.

Budget Administration and Financial Proficiency

• Successfully managed the day-to-day departmental operations and skillfully prepared and maintained the division’s budget exceeding $500,000.
