Curriculum vitae.
May 2008 to December 2012
Employed as site manager with Seaquest Marine. The first project was for 7
Suezmax tankers, 165000mt each. The second project was for 4 Suezmax
tankers, 158000mt each and 2 Aframax product carriers.
The position was to ensure that all the vessels are built according to the
specification and good engineering practice. It involves carrying out
requested inspections and patrolling inspections at the shipyard as well as
manufacturers premises. Health and safety issues are monitored. Progress
reports are sent every 2 weeks. The first project completed in April 2011,
when I transferred to Ulsan and assisted in plan approval for several other
projects, which had been taken on before starting the second project, which
will complete in November.
December 2007-May 2008,
Site manager with J.Lauritzen for the construction of 3 x 9000m3 ethylene
carriers. The order for these vessels had been placed by a Greek company
and Lauritzen had purchased them whilst already under construction. This
was to ensure that the building was according to the specification and good
engineering practice. Monthly reports were sent to the owners including
office accounts.
December 2006-December 2007.
Machinery inspector with Kuwait Oil Tanker Co, for the construction of 2 x
LPG carriers, 81000m3 and 1 x VLCC, 317000mt. This was ensuring that all
machinery items, including piping, outfitting etc were built according to
the specification and good engineering practice. Attending during all
testing and commissioning as well as sea trials. Working closely with the
other inspectors, especially electrical. Reports and owners comments
concerning defects etc were recorded in DNV Nauticus. The first vessel was
delivered in April, the second one was delivered on July 19th and the 3rd
one is due for delivery December 10th.
February2006-December 2006.
Senior technical superintendent with Thome offshore management involved in
upgrading of a small FPSO. This involved ensuring that all equipment was
overhauled including the process plant, installing a new flare cooling and
N2 system. Also involved in the delivery of new building anchor handling
and supply vessels, built in China but to be delivered in Singapore, prior
to going onto a bare -boat charter. Testing of all equipment was done as
well as inspecting tank coating. As expected quite a lot of defects were
observed and it was necessary to have these rectified prior any take-over.
There was also a requirement to install more storage spaces and supply
initial stores.
March 2005-November 2005.
Technical manager of a local ship owner responsible for the technical
running of a fleet of small feeder container vessels. This required
monitoring their operation, arranging repairs, spare parts etc.
May 2004 march 2005.
Construction manager for the building of anchor handling supply vessels
being built in Singapore. This was for all parts of the construction and
commissioning including drawing revision and ensuring that the shipyard
built according to the specification. Inspections were carried out on a
daily basis with defects being marked. Serious defects were then followed
up by written report to the shipyard. Close contact was kept with the
classification society. Cement tanks were fabricated in China and myself
inspected them and saw them pressure tested and coated there before they
were shipped to Singapore. Other equipment was inspected at the makers
works when in Singapore. Equipment fabricated in Europe was inspected by
the project engineer, from Rotterdam. Reports were sent to the principals
on a weekly basis and meetings with the project team were frequent. This
was a short term contract.
March 2001---April 2004
Thome Ship management, firstly as consultant and then as senior
superintendent. The consultancy was primarily to oversee the transferral
of a fleet of 12 ships to new owners. This was the result of a hostile take-
over of a company which had its vessels managed by Thome. Upon completion
of this I was asked to stay on as senior superintendent and was involved in
the day to day running of a fleet of tankers and bulkers. This entailed
preparing budgets and maintaining them, ensuring that the vessels performed
correctly, passed oil major vetting inspections, port state control
inspections. Management reports were sent to the owners on a quarterly
basis. In late 2003 the company lost numerous vessels out of management
due to sale or scrap and I was made redundant.
Jan 1998-Jan 2001.
V ships Singapore as operations director. Was transferred here to open up
this regional office, this included finding the premises, hiring the staff,
purchasing all office equipment etc, then obtaining the ISM and ISO
documents of compliance. For 1998 I was running the office entirely and
reporting to the group managing director who was sitting in Cyprus. This
entailed preparing quarterly reports for our clients, profit and loss
status for head office, forecasts, meeting existing and potential clients.
As operations director I was head of all technical aspects for the ships
under our management and ensure that the fleet operated to meet the budget
and performance standards established for each vessel. It was also to
ensure that the vessels operated safely, in compliance with legal and
regulatory body requirements and the company's standards and policies. To
ensure that the company's safety and quality management system was fully
implemented according to group policies. I also visited the vessels to
ensure that they were operating correctly.
Due to a joint venture I was made redundant.
July 1996-Dec 1997.
V Ships Cyprus as fleet manager responsible for 2 fleets of vessels which
includes gas tankers, oil tankers, multi-purpose and general purpose
vessels, and ro-ro. Total 18 ships. Stand in for the operations director
during his absence. This required overseeing the superintendents and
ensuring that all was in order, liasing with the owners. Was promoted and
transferred to Singapore.
May 1994-July 1996.
V ships Cyprus as fleet superintendent responsible for the technical
operation of 5 multi-purpose container vessels and back up superintendent
for further 5. This required monitoring the performance, ensuring that
stores and spares are supplied, carrying out inspections, organising
running repairs and dry-docks, keeping within the prescribed budget as well
as having them operating efficiently. Promoted.
July 1990-May 1994.
V Ships Monaco as fleet superintendent responsible for the technical
operation of multi-purpose container vessels, bulk carriers, tankers and
gas carriers. This required monitoring the performance, ensuring that
stores and spares are supplied, carrying out inspections, organising
running repairs and dry-docks, keeping within the prescribed budget as well
as having them operating efficiently. Transferred to Cyprus office.
Oct 1989-June 1990.
Germanischer Lloyd surveyor based in London. This involved carrying out
survey's of vessels for the issuance of class or statutory certificates,
also industrial inspections. Found the job too political and decided to go
back to superintendency.
Superintendent with Fairmont shipping Hong Kong responsible for a fleet of
multi-purpose bulkers with medium speed engines, fortune type vessels.
Superintendent with Worldwide shipping Hong Kong responsible for a fleet of
tankers from 100,000 up to 250,000 tons.
Ship manager-repair with Verolme shipyard, Cork, Ireland. Responsible for
organising all types of repairs to vessels either afloat or in drydock,
issuing a 'work done' report which is the basis of the invoice, discussing
quotes/invoices with clients. Was also guarantee engineer for a newly
delivered Irish sea ferry. Due to a slump in work the yard was closed down.
New building superintendent, based in Norway, for Gazocean, Paris. This
entailed 6 months in Paris prior to going to Norway in order to go through
plan approval stages, making up first delivery stores lists etc. The
vessels were chemical tankers designed to carry phosphoric acid in the
centre tanks and other chemicals in wing tanks. The work involved
overseeing all parts of the building from keel-laying up to delivery for
all parts of hull and machinery, attending all commissioning and sea
trials. This was a contract position for the duration of the buildings.
Shipmanager-repair at Lisnave shipyard, Portugal. Responsible for
organising all types of repairs to vessels in drydock, issuing a 'work
done' report which was the basis of the invoice. Discussing quotes and
invoices with clients. The country had a revolution in 1973 and there were
many changes especially with foreigners working so people were advised to
leave.
Assistant yard manager, Milford haven dry-dock. Responsible for organising
all types of repairs to vessels either afloat or in dry-dock, organising
maintenance of shipyard machinery, hiring of labour. Issued estimates for
work to be done and invoices after completion. Decided to leave in order
to gain experience in a bigger organisation.
Sailing on various types of vessels as engineer, including apprenticeship
with B.P.Tanker Co.
