Independent News Network, Davenport, Iowa (2005 2008)

Chief Executive Officer Served as turnaround CEO for a small media business. INN provides

custom news, sports and weather programming and syndicated content to niche television and

internet markets nationwide. An unsuccessful acquisition by a large media company resulted in

deteriorated telecommunications infrastructure, decimated staff and the loss of all but one

customer. The original investors bought INN back and asked me to serve as CEO. Worked

with the INN team to develop and implement a strategy to restore infrastructure, rebuild staff,

and grow revenue. Recruited and hired critical management and on-air talent. Expanded

customer stations carrying INN news products from 1 local to over 200 nationwide. Improved

sales by an order of magnitude and substantially improved profitability in twenty four months.

INN is still a consulting client on a project basis.

NewVentures Initiative, Davenport, Iowa (2003 2005)

Executive Vice President - NewVentures is a private business accelerator assisting start up and

funding of new technology businesses in eastern Iowa and Western Illinois. Services provided

to businesses in renewable technologies, biotechnology, health care, advertising, information

technology, and advanced manufacturing. Developed business accelerator program (the first in

the state of Iowa) to facilitate the start up and funding of new technology businesses from

concept to operation to receiving equity funding. Received recognition from Iowa Governor Tom

Vilsack as the model business accelerator program for the state of Iowa. Reviewed and worked

with over one hundred regional businesses. Provided design input and oversaw construction of

the NewVentures Center, a state-of-the-art business incubator.

Grain Processing Corporation, Muscatine, Iowa (1995 2003)

Senior Vice President, Business Development & Technology GPC products include

Food, Personal Care, Pharmaceutical, Industrial Specialty Chemicals, Ethanol, Consumer Pet

Products, Starch-based Adhesives and Specialty Carbohydrates (~$1 B/year).

Developed and directed (profit and loss responsibility) three business units and a joint

venture.

Overall responsibility for new product commercialization; corporate development; product,

process and analytical research; pilot development: intellectual property and technology

licensing; quality control, quality assurance and regulatory affairs.

Developed new consumer pet product business into one of the most profitable business in

the corporation

Chairman of the Board (2000 2003) Innova, a joint venture between Grain Processing

Corporation and SPI Polyols, served as a specialty marketing company for new and unique food

products. Developed and marketed a variety of specialty carbohydrates with high levels of

functionality in foods and pharmaceuticals. Achieved overall profitability in first two years of

operation.

Great Lakes Chemical Corporation (GLCC) (1984 1995)

Manager, Manufacturing Technology, El Dorado, AR - GLCC products include Specialty

Chemicals (Artificial Sweeteners, Pharmaceuticals, Water Treatment Chemicals, Fire

Extinguishents, Flame Retardants, Pesticides and Photographic Chemicals.

Overall responsibility for manufacturing technology at the largest GLCC manufacturing

complex (four plants) producing over $500 M/year in product sales.

Directed process development, engineering development, manufacturing information

systems, manufacturing continuous improvement activities, quality assurance, quality control

and transfer of new technology from corporate R&D and other companies.

Administered budgets of over seven million dollars and four departments with 63
