The University of California, Davis Davis, CA

Research

Experience

January 2008 - present

Micropower Circuits and Systems Group

Working with Texas Instruments in the design and fabrication of a photovoltaic

energy harvesting system with maximum power point tracking.

Characterized integrated photodiodes as a power source and modeled them in

Cadence.

Developed e ciency calculator in MATLAB GUI with user de ned light source,

medium (i.e., tissue, air) and semiconductor bandgap utilizing Beer s Law and

the the Detailed Balance Limit (Monte Carlo simulations).

Designed experiment to measure ballistic photons through chicken tissue to verify

above model.

Quantifying the comparison between Inductive coupling and Photovoltaics in the

subdermal implant application.

Investigating photovoltaics use in stimulating cardiomyocyte tissue engineered

constructs.

US Department of Education GAANN Fellowship recipient.

June 2006 - June 2007

Integrated Nanodevices and Systems Research Group

Investigated the quantum electron transport properties of nanowires along with

contact resistance.

Generated graphs to analyze the relationship between cross section area and

resistance of Si NWs.

The University of California, Davis Davis, CA

Teaching

Experience

September 2010 - present

Teaching Assistant

(Prepared, helped with, and graded labs; Graded midterms and Finals)

Led labs in EEC 180A: Digital Systems I, EEC 118: Digital Integrated Circuits,

and EEC 119A-B: Integrated Circuit Design Project

Quartus II, breadboards, components, power supplies, function generators, and

oscilloscopes.

Cadence Tools, simulations, standard cells, and layout of adders; and mentoring

groups in their design of a pixel imager array system.

Grader for ENG 6: Engineering Problem Solving (MATLAB).

p. 1 of 2

Fong, E. G. 2 of 2

2010 - present

Mentor

Global Research in Advanced Technologies (GREAT) Program

Mentored/Advised Chinese foreign exchange students Fall 2011 and Winter 2012

on energy harvesting. One student investigated thermal gradient energy harvesters

for hearing aids; the other is creating a model in order to compare the e cacy of

inductive coupling vs. photovoltaics for biomedical implants based on frequency,

tissue, and separation.

WISE (Women in Science and Engineering), Women s Resource Center

Mentored Undegraduate Student on her courses and student life.

Silexos, Inc. Menlo Park, CA

Work

Experience

June - December 2010

Process Engineer Intern

Helped develop the lm deposition process of the solar cell lms, tested and

characterized solar cells, modeled and simulated solar cells and strings in HSPICE,

and trouble shot and worked on random projects within the startup.
