WORK EXPERIENCE:
Senior Research Coordinator/Research Manager/Neuropsychometrician
Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Department of Neurology, Baltimore, MD September 1992 until June 2012.
Manage and oversee daily operation of HIV Neurology trials and coordinators.
Responsible for administrative and personnel matters including supervision of all research staff. Coordinate scheduling of physicians for study visit coverage. Implement
protocols for staff training. Handle all HR issues including hiring, firing and staff professional development. Reported directly to the Chairman of the Department of Neurology.
Became departmental expert on IRB, clinical trials, recruitment and retention for Department of Neurology. Worked on all submissions for new faculty, junior faculty and faculty who did not have a coordinator, in Department of Neurology. Also, responsible for training newly hired coordinators in study coordination and policy and procedure for clinical trials. As well, selected by Department Chairman to design a Clinical Trials Unit for Department of Neurology. Also, named to start up Committee for Office of Recruitment and Retention to assist in getting office started up by sharing expertise on how to recruit and maintain human subjects in research.
Coordinate both clinical trials and observational research studies by conducting study visits and protocol adherence. Perform, score and interpret neuropsychological testing to determine severity of cognitive impairment among HIV positive individuals. Provide counseling, intervention and follow-up care to study participants, as needed. Complete case report forms and insure integrity of study data. Available 24 hours per day via cellphone for patient care issues. Liase among CTCC, IDS, GCRC, IRB, NIH, drug companies, other research institutions and patient care providers regarding study issues, as well as clinical concerns. Assure HIPPA compliance and certification in all areas of HIV Neurology Research.
Act as liaison to Neurology Administration by handling budgetary and personnel issues including hiring, disciplinary action and human resources issues. Primary contact for HIV Neurology group regarding issues concerning budgets, purchasing and study generated payments. Assisted in developing study budgets for clinical trials and NIH funded studies. Assisted in study set up with various sponsors and other agencies. Act as custodian for $16,000 petty cash account by administering and tracking patient payments. Responsible for reconciliation and replenishment of account. Track budgetary spending and income. Generate patient reimbursement and accountability for accurate payment of accounts and appropriate patient payment.

Developed assessment materials, implemented and executed assessment
plans. Development and maintenance of goals, as well as monthly progress notes was required. Duties also consisted of, and were not limited to, case management, personal counseling, crisis-intervention, consultation with other professionals, and participation on client interdisciplinary treatment teams and membership on organizational committees. Direct supervision of Occupational Therapy Students from Towson State University was also included.
Due to extensive work with both hearing impaired clients and staff, basic sign language skills were developed. Ability to communicate with those with minimal language skills, and creative implementation of various communication styles, was essential.
