Health Physicist

I currently serve as the Radiation Safety Officer at the First Joint Department of Defense & Veterans AdministrationFederal Health Care Center. In the process of merging the 2 Medical Centers, I successfully led the Radiological Decommissioning efforts of 2 radioactive materials permits which included 16 research spaces and 12 medical spaces. As a result I contributed to over $200,000 cost savings and ensured all regulatory requirements were achieved. I am currently listed as the Radiation Safety Officer on the facility's radioactive materials permit, I manage 2 dosimetry programs that monitor over 200 radiation workers, I am part of the Facility's Emergency Management Team, and I am also the Radiation Safety Officer for Diagnostic Radiology which includes but not limited to managing over 75 imaging devices and ensuring proper training for all physicians and non-physicians. As the RSO I also manage 4 contracts pertaining to Radiation Safety and the Fund Control Point Usage. As a result of my leadership, the joint initiative has been successful in meeting the regulations of both the DOD and the VA. I have also implemented Quality Improvement initiatives to ensure that ALARA practices are implemented to better patient and staff care.

I served as the Medical Permit Radiation Safety Officer in the Radiology Department at Naval Hospital Great Lakes ensuring that radiation safety activities at the facility and the facility's subsidiaries were performed in accordance with approved procedures and regulatory requirements in the daily operation of the facility's radioactive materials permit. I was also responsible for overseeing the radiation physical exams process at 2 Branch Medical Clinics which as a result ensured that Nuclear Field Workers were able to meet all training requirements and meet Navy Mission fleet requirements. I served as the Midwest Region Health Physicist responsible for surveying all radiographic equipment upon the request from other commands; Responsible for over 70 local radiographic units as a result patients wait times for patients were reduced and machines were certified safe for patient use. I also developed procedures for Sentinel Node Biopsies which as a result prevented outsourcing patients; I also served as the Assistant Department Head for Radiology managing over 70 staff members.
