Objective: To find a Chief Scientist, Principal Scientist, Research Director or similar position

preferably, but necessarily, in the Los Angeles area.

Core Competencies:

A seasoned technology executive with over 30 years experience in R&D.

25 years experience of applying AI techniques including pattern recognition, data mining

methods, neural networks, genetic algorithms, fuzzy sets and clustering.

Extensive experience of signal processing, spectral analysis, numerical methods and other

areas of applied mathematics.

Over 30 years programming experience using R, S-Plus, SQL, Mathematica, PV-Wave,

IDL, Fortran, C, Pascal and UNIX.

Design of digital and analog electronics.

Innovation " proven success in generating ideas and solutions for technically challenging

problems.

Finding solutions to measurement problems in physics, physiology, electronics, acoustics

and optics.

Professional Experience:

Chief Scientist SATMAP Inc. 2007 to present.

I co-invented and led the team that developed SATMAP, an AI system for optimizing call center

performance. The system uses AI techniques including data mining, neural networks, genetic

algorithms and other proprietary algorithms to search call records and thereby discern patterns in

the demographic and psychographic characteristics of caller and agent. This enables the system

to optimize some call center metric, typically sales. SATMAP is in use by several Fortune 500

companies in the Telecom, Hospitality, Insurance and other verticals. I am also closely involved

in marketing the system and am co-author of 17 patent applications on SATMAP technologies.

Chief Statistician Nielsen Entertainment (formerly National Research Group). 1987 "

2007.

I invented mathematical models for forecasting motion picture revenues based on fuzzy-set

coding of the semantics and other features of movies which were then analyzed by neural

networks. I also developed a competitive interaction model based on an in-depth analysis of

many thousands of past movies. Combining these models allowed major Hollywood movie

studios to explore what if scenarios of releasing their movies on a range of dates so as to

determine the optimum release dates that would maximize revenues. This system was in

development and use for over two decades. I also developed numerous statistical analyses of

motion picture market research data and was closely involved in selling all these products to

major movie studios.

Consultant The Resource Group. 2006 " 2007.

I developed and prototyped a novel one-button phone for people wanting something simpler

than todays complex PDAs. I developed all the hardware and software for this and a patent is

pending. I also invented and prototyped a system to provide remote visual assistance to blind

persons and developed a non-contact heart and breathing rate monitor for call center agents.

CEO Aleph Management. 1997 " 2000.

I led, and developed the algorithms for, a futures fund that used a novel method of finding

periodicities in market data.

Director of Research The Cognitive Sciences Laboratory. 1995 " 2004.

Research into psychometrics. 1995 - 2004 developed and prototyped an economical 128 channel,

24 bit, electro-dermal response system for mass testing of levels of arousal in experimental

psychology.

Consultant SAIC. 1991 " 1995.

Statistical analysis and experimental designs for a government sponsored research program on

psychometrics.

Consultant SRI International. 1981 " 1990.

Applications of pattern recognition and signal analysis to psychophysics research. Experimental

test of a modified theory of quantum mechanics.

Consultant The World Bank. 1984 " 1986.

Developed appropriate technology for the third world. I designed and installed a high reliability

computer system for a team of agronomists in a World Bank project in Kano, Nigeria. By using

redundant microcomputers primarily powered by batteries, the system provided more uptime than

any other computer system in Kano State at the time.

Consultant AGA Signals Plc. 1979 " 1984.

Design of computer hardware, numerical analysis and optical design of marine navigational aids.

I co-invented and developed the Programmed Traverse Light, a device for guiding supertankers

into ports ensuring their arrival dockside with zero velocity. Patents granted.

Education:

BSc Applied Mathematics, University of Wales, First Class honors 1979.

PhD work in General Relativity on finding the metric inside a rotating perfect fluid star.

Publications, patents and references on request.
