WORK EXPERIENCE

June 1999 - presentSilver Spring International Middle School

Promote the knowledge of American history (primarily US but including Latin America) with

eighth grade students in a heterogeneous setting. Successful teaching experiences with GT,

General, ESOL and Special Needs (special education and G/SLN) students. Last academic year

was spent exploring and analyzing World History and Cultures, including Asia, Europe and

Africa. Many of the same teaching and learning strategies as listed below were utilized

with students here with the main focus being Multiple Intelligences.

Served as co-Interdisciplinary Resource Teacher for the World Studies department and also

as a team Resource Teacher during both academic school years.

Educational activities that have supported the curriculum include planning field trips,

National History Day, coordinating our school s first Geography Bee.

Activities that support the school s functions include administrative Connect Council,

participation in the development of the Success for Every Student plan, and acting as a

mentor teacher to pre-professional students in Johns Hopkins teaching program.

August 1993 - June 1999Kenmoor Middle School/ T.A.G. & E.S.O.L. Magnet

Facilitate the learning of United States History to eighth graders incorporating a

variety of methodologies (e.g. Core Knowledge Goals, Dimensions of Learning,

Interdisciplinary Tasks, Open-ended Questions, Cooperative Groupings, Primary Source

Inclusion) within the performance-based curriculum. Administered state required tests,

including Maryland Functional Reading/Writing/Math Tests, MSPAP, and a modified high

school Government assessment/ benchmark. Successful educational experiences with

Comprehensive, TAG, Special Education, G/SLN, and ESOL students.

Educational activities that support the curriculum include participation in all levels of

the National History Day program, annual field trips to Williamsburg, VA and Gettysburg,

PA, and in-house Colonial Fair visited by our seventh graders and local elementary

students, and National Geographic s Geography Bee.

Extracurricular activities sponsored include Kenmoor s A.C.T. (Academic Competition Teams-

-Jr. It s Academic, Science Bowl, and Knowledge Master Open), Student Government

Association, co-chair of the annual eighth grade Spring Dance, and chaperoning an

international art study trip to England.

Activities that support school functions include serving as an academic team leader,

teacher trainer/mentor for new staff, curriculum development of in-house performance-based

units utilized for MSPAP preparation and for seventh grade use during MSPAP, generating

Kenmoor s School Improvement Plan (as required by the MSDE), developing a differentiated

Science Fair project program for our Special Education students, Practicum Partner with

Bowie State University s School of Education, Association representative/FAC Chair,

Student Awards & Recognition Committee, Career Day Committee, Equity Committee, and Crisis

Intervention Team.

February - May, 1993Student TeachingNorthern High School (Owings, MD)

Practicum included two cooperating teachers and three subject areas: US History II,

Government, and World Civilizations (9th, 10th & 11th grades, general education and gifted

students).

As assistant contract administrator, maintained incoming company invoices and amounts

due, served as liaison for world-wide agencies and government/military installations,

assisted in updating and generating the GSA contract, and monitored all contracts for

services and maintenance to be rendered.
