As a tutor I base my work on a child's strengths, first and foremost. Building upon that strength is the focus of each educational opportunity. I encourage my students to set ambitious goals in order to stretch their thinking. Innovation and creativity is embraced daily. Academic weaknesses are also addressed and weaved into instruction. I attended Marshall University and graduated Magna Cum Laude. I received my Masters degree in Reading Instruction through Grand Canyon University. My expertise is in all subject areas K-6. I do my best to prepare my students by helping them develop a new set of skills and fresh ways of thinking. I encourage my students to use their curiosity, conduct field studies, brainstorm, evaluate problems and solutions, and celebrate successes. I stay abreast on current brain research, literacy instruction, and applied mathematics. I have eight years of teaching experience in pre-K, kindergarten, first and second grade. I was a literacy coach K-6 for five years. I view each tutoring session as an opportunity to grow as a teacher and to help grow the minds of my students.
