Education:
The Ohio State University, B.S. Molecular Genetics, June 2010.
The Ohio State University, B.S. Mathematics, June 2010.
Graduated summa cum laude.
The Ohio State University, M.S. Statistics, June 2012
Research Experience:
Research Assistantship: 10/2011-Present
Studying monotone association between gene expression and drug resistance within an
unspecified number of subtypes of cancer.
Duties include independent research, and collaboration with biological researchers.
Undergraduate Research Fellow: 04/2009-06/2010
Used Coalescent Theory to study the hybridization of two subspecies of Missouri
Rattlesnakes and two populations of Black Ratsnakes. Bayesian and Maximum Likelihood
approaches are used.
Duties include sequencing work in the lab, computer programming using PERL and Unix, and
data analysis with various programs.
Teaching Experience:
Graduate Teaching Assistant09/2011-12/2011
Lecturer of introductory statistics for three class sessions a week.
Duties also included: creating lesson plans, leading discussions, grading, and individual
tutoring.
Phylogenetic WorkshopTeaching Assistant06/2011-08/2011
Led group of undergraduate researchers studying HIV. We studied the association between
evolutionary distance (measured by branch distance along estimated trees) and clinical
variables collected by an HIV treatment center in Belgium. Both maximum likelihood and
Bayesian approaches were used.
Phylogenetic Workshop Teaching Assistant: 06/2010-08/2010
Led lab sessions on Unix and various phylogenetic program packages.
Led group of undergraduates researching evolutionary origins of flightless birds.
Individually tutored an undergraduate student on phylogenetic research and statistical
analysis with R.
Undergraduate Teaching Assistant: 09/2008-12/2008
Taught four one-hour recitation sections of Math 104 (Intermediate Algebra) every week.
Duties also included grading and individual tutoring.
Awards:
Distinguished University Fellowship (September 2010 - Present)
Award for excellent research presentation at the BMPS Poster Forum (23 April 2010).
Medalist Scholarship (September 2006 - June 2010):
For academic excellence and essay writing skills.
Morris Math Endowment (September 2009 - June 2010):
For academic excellence in mathematics.
President's Salute Nominee (April 2010):
For academic excellence among peers from the college of Arts and Sciences.
Programming Experience:
Formal training in C++ and SAS
Functional training in Perl, R, and Unix shell scripting.
Other:
Graduate Student Representative on The Ohio State University Statistics Department's
Computing Committee (
January 2012 - Jun2012)
Duties included: attending committee meetings, surveying graduate students on computing
experience, and incorporating ideas to educate the graduate student body on computing
resources.
