Founded Astrobites, a website where graduate students pick one paper per day from astro-ph to summarize
for an undergraduate audience. Recruited an international network of more than two dozen graduate student
contributors. Develop and maintain www.astrobites.com website. Total papers summarized: > 200, typical
readership: 1, 000/day.

Volunteer September 2010 Present
SitN operates a weekly public lecture series attended by 200 Boston-area children and adults. Delivered
public lectures on observations of black holes in (5/2011) and chemical enrichment (8/2011). Contributed
article on supernovae to the web publication SitN Flash. Member of SitN website administration team.
Science Theatre, Michigan State University
Assistant Director, volunteer August 2006 May 2010
Reached thousands of students throughout Michigan by performing in 40 science outreach shows (led and
organized 18) through the undergraduate-run outreach organization Science Theatre. Presented stage and
hands-on demonstrations to teach principles of biology, chemistry, and physics to K-12 audiences. Devel-
oped and documented 10 new demonstrations; recruited and trained dozens of new members; advertised,
organized, and coordinated events. Developed and maintained ScienceTheatre.org website. During this time,
Science Theatre was twice recognized as MSU s Outstanding Service Organization, among other honors.
