Just left position working as Bereavement Services Manager for a large Hospice program based in Torrance California. During the past 6 years of program growth have effectively managed support programs and psychosocial staff to meet Medicare and Company Regulations. Previously demonstrated ability to manage details of church administration, tracking the interests and service of 250 men, women and children on weekly basis. Much earlier in my career worked as a sales assistant for a large consumer electronics firms, and territory sales manager of nationally ranked legal publishing house, supporting as many as 80 outside contractors in contract completion, sales development and customer service.
Clinical Experience
Fifteen years of professional experience in Hospital and Hospice Chaplaincy, caring for the spiritual needs of patients and their families in the hospital, facility care and home settings. Effectively fulfilled responsibilities for crisis intervention and grief counseling, bio-ethical consultations, and multi-disciplinary review of adherence to medical standards of practice. Extensive time spent with Patients and families in Intensive Care and Cardiac Care inpatient and out-patient programs, facilitating support groups, including offering a heart related stress management program and individual counseling for patients in crisis. Provided Spiritual Assessments and Counseling in the hospital Palliative Care program. Able to provide on-going opportunities to practice and educate others in Mind-Body-Spirit principles in a medical environment.
Pastoral Experience
Five years as staff minister for theologically liberal congregation, responsible for developing and managing educational programming, small groups, and pastoral counseling. There was ample pastoral opportunity to influence personal Spiritual development in this faith community through regular teaching and preaching responsibilities for both adults and children. During this time significant changes were made to the quality of the education and the integration of new spiritual and religious understandings into the life of the congregation.
EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
Since 2006 employed as Bereavement Services Manager for VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, based in Torrance, CA.. During rapid growth of the program maintained both the Volunteer and Bereavement programs by recruiting and training, consistent mentoring of volunteers, establishing good working relationships with staff, Chaplains and Social Workers. Now holding only the Bereavement position providing group support to families and staff as well as individual counseling as needed. Responsible for post-death mailings to families and supervising the follow-up as assessed by the clinical teams.
Also a Personal Life Coach since 2004. Most clients come needing support in dealing with recent loss of loved ones or with chronic illness of their own and seek greater personal awareness and spiritual growth.
Previously employed as a Staff Chaplain for St Joseph Health System, Orange, CA., 2003 through 2005, and previously worked from 1993 to 1999, continuing on as per diem staff until 1-03. returning full-time in fall of 2003. Worked in the Critical Care areas with attention to the emotional and Spiritual issues of patients, family, and staff. Strong experience in End-Of-Life planning and support, crisis intervention, Spiritual Counseling, identifying and addressing Ethical issues, and was assigned for Spiritual support to the Palliative Care Program.
Previously employed as a Chaplain and Educator in the Outpatient Cardiac Rehab at Mission Hospital, Mission Viejo, CA., March 2002 until October 2003. Responsibilities included facilitating groups, teaching stress-management, and one-on-one counseling as needed to cardiac patients.
Left a 5 year ministry with Irvine United Congregational Church, Irvine, CA. in March of 2003, to allow time to finish graduate work that is now complete.
