M.S.C.S, University of Southern California

Career Objectives

I desire a permanent, salaried position, leading a group of talented and motivated

engineers solving business problems with strategic computer technologies. I like to be a

key participant in selecting and adopting strategic technologies. I wish to continue to be

a change agent, and continue my lifelong commitment to learning and mentoring.

Qualifications

Leadership: Directing, facilitating, and mentoring; managing budgets from $1-3M;

planning, architecting, and deploying in "Web time"

Technology: Up-to-date, hands-on, production-level experience in system integration, e-

commerce, client/server, and N-tier systems using server-side Java (J2EE), XML, CORBA,

C++, Oracle, Web and application servers

Business: Business and development processes, technology strategy and architecture;

experience in the hotel, financial, aerospace, telecommunications, scientific, and

engineering industries

Highlighted Recent Achievements

I have up-to-date, hard-core, production-level skills developing and testing server-side

Java capabilities with J2EE and XML. I also have full life-cycle experience using the

latest software development tools and methods. I have superb oral and written

communications skills, as well as excellent leadership skills. My technical and people

skills, as well as my ability to understand and focus on business goals, have helped

increase companies' revenues and cut costs through productivity improvements.

At SynXis, my team was responsible for developing a system that accounts for over 85%

percent of revenues on a 7x24 basis. I introduced architectural, quality assurance, and

development process improvements that resulted in SynXis' first on time, on-budget system

delivery. I developed tools that help boost operational efficiency and cut costs. I

personally mentored four other staff members in J2EE technologies and object-oriented

methods and tools.

At Oracle, I helped define the Oracle8i and Oracle Application Server Java feature set,

participated in internal product acceptance testing, and identified and supported early

product adopters in various industries. I helped identify, win, and execute multi-million

dollar consulting contracts. I also built an on-line community of consultants well versed

in object technology who helped spread this knowledge throughout Oracle's 15,000 member

consultancy.

SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE

*

July 2001 to Present - I am employed as an independent contractor for SynXis (see

below). My responsibilities include technology selection, analysis, design, coding,

testing, and integration of various capabilities including: : XML message processing for

B2B services; integration of the SynXis reservation system with the Pegasus TravelWeb

portal (http://www.travelweb.com); and mentoring of three SynXis developers in various

J2EE technologiesDecember 1998 to July 2001 - I was the Director of Interfaces for SynXis Corporation,

an Application Service Provider for the hotel industry. My responsibilities included

backend system integration, project management, integration testing and QA, business-to-

business e-commerce architecture, contract management, technical leadership, Java2

Enterprise Edition (J2EE) development, and participation in industry standards groups. The

SynXis projects included development of a B2B XML-based messaging system, a high-

throughput reservation system, and various internal tools to help boost productivity and

cut costs. These systems were based on a multi-tiered application-server architecture

using Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs) and Oracle for backend application services, servlets

and JavaServer Pages (JSPs) for Web tier controller and presentation services, and HTML

and JavaScript for the client-tier. The present architecture for the SynXis Agent

Reservation Management System is comprised of about 100 session and entity EJBs, and 60

servlets and JSPs, for a total of approximately 200 KSLOC of J2EE code.

September 1995 to December 1998 - As a Technical Director with Oracle, I led a group of

ten experienced consultants in an advanced technology group. Our projects included

development/deployment of an e-commerce site for on-line purchasing of Oracle software

components, an e-commerce Web site for stock-quote subscriptions (www.dbc.com), a

Java/CORBA Web-based Beta product tracking system, and advanced product testing and

benchmarking for Oracle8i and the Oracle Application Server.

November 1992 to September 1995 - As an MTS at Northfield Trading, I was responsible

for the design, implementation, and maintenance of software supporting futures and Foreign

Exchange (FX) trading. This included a large C++ back-office application with an X-Windows

GUI on UNIX platforms, a C++ Microsoft Windows application for monitoring price data in

real-time, and a commercial Microsoft Access application for FX trading and simulation

data management. My other responsibilities included network and system administration,

user training and support, and the statistical evaluation of trading systems.

June 1982 to November 1992 - As a Staff Engineer at Lockheed Martin, I led a project

that developed a UNIX-based client/server application using C/C++, X-Windows/Motif, and an

object-oriented database for the National Technology Transfer Center. I designed a

distributed information management system for Titan rocket launch operations for which

development was being done on UNIX workstations using C/C++, Oracle, OpenLook and Motif.

Prior to these projects, I led development of two Smalltalk systems for simulating

manufacturing operations and launch vehicle performance. I also won two development

contracts from the Air Force: an advanced development contract for communications network

modeling, and a R&D contract addressing the application of advanced database tools and

techniques to command and control.

June 1979 to June 1982 - As a Software Engineer at Hughes Aircraft, I was responsible

for requirements analysis, design, and implementation of knowledge-based system software

for image understanding; advanced computer architecture research and development; design

and implementation of a reliability evaluator for VHSIC chips; and development of real-

time weapon control software for the Navy's F-14 jet fighter.
