Borders is a $3.8B retailer of books and music in the middle of a turnaround with over

1,100 stores and 30,000 employees globally. After selling much of it s international

assets and franchising the remainder, Borders is now concentrating on offering a multi-

channel retail store and online buying .experience to its customers. I was hired to help

reorganize IT and form a new IT Delivery Services capability. Responsibilities include:

Formed a PMO with redesigned governance processes and staffed with all of Borders IT

project managers

Formed a Quality Assurance team, our Support and Tactical Application Response (STAR)

Team, and a new IT Vendor Management Team including Telecom

Reorganized the Operations Support group which included Service Desk, Hardware Asset

Depot, Level 2 Support, Production Control (including release mgmt and change mgmt) and

all IT support for the three distribution centers

Reorganized IT Planning and Control which included IT Security and Compliance with

responsibility for SOX, PCI and HIPPA compliance and now serve as the Chief Information

Security Officer

Reduced costs by over $3M in first six months in my areas of responsibility and increased

effectiveness by reengineering processes and renegotiating vendor contracts

performance improvement, IT and financial advisory professionals who often assume interim

Managing Director & Process Executive - GM Global Purchasing & Supply Chain and Global

Business Services

Accountable for EDS business with General Motors Global Purchasing & Supply Chain (GPSC)

process area supporting 127 plants globally, providing systems for high-volume production

order management and scheduling, vehicle and part sequencing, and supplier EDI

communications. Simultaneously, accountable for Global Business Services (GBS) process

area providing systems supporting HR, Legal, Accounting, Finance, Facilities, Network

Engineering Center, Corporate Staffs, New York Treasurer s Office and GM Asset Management.

In addition, we provided operations management and support services for GM s consumer web

sites on a global basis. (NOTE: Since GM s IT is almost entirely outsourced, this was

great operational experience with dedicated internal relationships similar to actually

leading an IT department of a major global company.)

Exceeded operational and budget goals for both GPSC and GBS while reducing the management

overhead expenses by 50% over three years in each process area. (Other process areas

increased their expenses over that same period)

Reorganized EDS GBS global leadership team, flattened the decision-making process by

reducing the number of delivery managers in half and better aligning to our GM clients

organization and priorities.

Provided application support for the largest single set of systems in GM s portfolio

(MGO), accomplished by our GPSC team with over 70% offshore resources utilizing PMO

expertise as a key success factor.

Turned around our dedicated service delivery approach resulting in GM s renewed faith in

our ability demonstrated by being awarded all operational application domain segments

(ADS) in both GPSC and GBS during GM s IS&S (Information Services and Systems) re-compete

process for all IT services. This is contracted revenue in excess of $480 Million with

potential to generate revenue of over $1Billion over a five year period. (These were the

only two global process areas with all operational segments awarded to one firm)

Provided global SAP executive sponsorship for the GM Account.

P&L Responsibilities

Partner - Advanced Technology Group (Previously Senior Manager and ATG Practice Leader)

Built the Michigan Advanced Technology Group (ATG) from 2 to 27 consultants and

technologists. One of eight Partners in Central Region - ATG totaling 265 technologists

regionally. Partner liaison from Central Region - ATG to Supply Chain Practice and Digital

Markets Practice.

Appointed as one of the eight Partners to the Deal Review Board for all of Business

Consulting in the Central Region which accounted for 1/3 of the firm s US business. All

engagements over $500K must be approved by this Board.

Launched a new type of Application Development Center in Ann Arbor with full P&L

responsibility. This gave the firm a new onsite-offsite application delivery capability

and set of processes.

Contributed to the development of Andersen s National Innovation Centers concept

resulting in a consistent set of processes for this activity on a national basis.

Co-authored Andersen s Automotive Industry Point-of-View which provided guidance to over

200 clients in the global automotive and manufacturing industries, promoting best

practices and key business opportunities.

Provided thought-leadership and IT strategy internally to ATG engagement teams and

directly to client executives as part of numerous client engagements throughout the

Central Region, North America and occasionally in Europe.

Online Technologies Corporation, Ann Arbor, Michigan 1994 - 1999

Launched as a value-added Internet and Application Service Provider (ASP), OTC was the

first and one of the largest web site hosting and technical development firms focused on

businesses in Michigan. Started while also managing Baker Investment Group. Sold the

company in 1999, but it is still a market leader in its regional market.

Founder, CEO and Chairman

Developed the business plan and product concepts and initially provided the marketing,

sales and operations management as well as much of the actual sales results. Built a

respected management team and very actively involved Board of Directors. Provided

strategic and implementation consulting, web site design and development for mostly small

to medium-size businesses and a few larger businesses.

Developed and launched our Data Center which included NT, UNIX and Linux production

hosting environment with security, backup and a three-tier architecture for J2EE and

Microsoft .NET application development platform.

Designed and developed a complete web site and web services for Mopar Performance Parts
