Manager Labor Relations (1997- 2006)

Responsible for all Labor Relations functions for over 3,500 union employees located in the eleven

Western States, Western Canada and Hawaii. Process and present all grievances and arbitrations.

Provide direction and counsel to all levels of management. Direct and oversee all corrective action

issued to employees. Process all NLRB charges and EEOC complaints within area. Also responsible

for negotiating of all single employer contracts in area of responsibility. In addition to primary duties,

extensively involved in employment, regulatory issues and Human Resources issues. As Director have

three direct reports, including field HR. Report to the Vice President of Labor Relations.

Participated in all multi-employer negotiations, both national and regional, and served as

Employer Chairman for all regional negotiations effectively negotiating a contract within

corporate economic guidelines.

Negotiated all company work rules for all classifications of union employees, which

allowed for maximum operational flexibility and greater employee utilization.

Developed corporate blueprint for controlling absenteeism that substantially reduced

absenteeism.

Coached every manager and supervisor on issuing effective corrective action.

Multi-State Grievance Hearing Employer Chairman.

Monitored all DOT drug testing and DOT regulations for union employees.

Member of National Grievance Committee.

Service Center Manager (1991-1996)

Managed three Southern California large locations. Responsible for the day-to-day operations for all

aspects of a major shipping facility including safety, revenue, profit, goal attainment and compliance

with both DOT and Company regulations. Dealt effectively with employee communications and

relations. Each facility had in excess of 100 plus union employees, drivers, office clerks, dock men

and mechanics. Had 9-12 direct reports and reported directly to the Area General Manager.

Increased revenue and profit every year, while reducing over-all operating cost.
