Fitness Company

Director of Engineering

Responsible for R&D and sustaining engineering as well as management of ~ 35 person team.

Co-managed $12M budget with Auckland, NZ 65 person development team.

• Directed program management and systems engineering of five networked LCD integrated

navigation systems generating ~ $110M revenue over six year period.

• Delivered products and features including DGPS positioning, raster & vector cartography,

NTSC/PAL video, radar, sonar, satellite weather, sea surface temp., Automatic Identification

Systems (AIS), surveillance systems and engine/vessel management.

• Built development team and support structure to respond to the OEM boat builder market.

Combined strategic partnerships and organic developments to achieve a “full line” product

offering within two years. Awarded OEM contract for $9M annual revenue.

• Spearheaded R&D and sustaining engineering while integrating the global structure of the

new parent company. A reduction of workforce resulted with a savings of $1.8M annually.

• Drove the implementation of a corporate-wide High Performance Product Development

(HPPD) initiative and achieved ISO 9001-2000, realizing new product cycle time reduction

of 30%.

• Introduced Lean Engineering and Design for Six Sigma initiatives. Reduced engineering

department spending by 20% while maintaining same head count. Improved customer

• Oversaw implementation of CAN bus engine/vessel monitoring project collaborating with co

developers in Auckland, NZ and Oshkosh, WI. Saved customer $1.5K per boat by

eliminating multiple displays, saving precious dashboard space. Generated ~ $3M annual

NORTHSTAR TECHNOLOGIES- Acton, MA 1993 – 2001

A $25M part of CMC Electronics Corporation, a $300M Defense and Aerospace Company

Program Manager & Lead Systems Engineer (1999 – 2001)

Simultaneously managed new marine products while driving support engineering functions for

marine and aviation product lines. Developed teams consisting of ~6-15 engineers performing

design of system, hardware, packaging, and software.

Managed development of two highly successful raster and vector color LCD DGPS

chartplotters, which generated combined revenue in the first four years of $45M. Won

numerous NMEA industry awards for “Best Performance and Reliability”.

Managed dual frequency, 600W/1KW sonar module project. Replacement of existing sonar

resulted in 1/3 lower retail price, 20% bottom line margin improvement, and 2X annual

revenue totaling ~$600K.

Produced 12-channel GPS receiver with Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring (RAIM)

and achieved FAA IFR precision approach certification.

Replaced core GPS technology across marine and aviation product lines with alternate

supplier. Reduced annual materials purchase price by $240K at a cost of $90K.

Senior Project Manager (1996 – 1999)

Managed design, documentation, validation and support of new marine and aviation GPS

products in a FAA regulated environment. Generated average annual revenue of $12M.
