SUMMARY: 5 years experience as manager and sole operator of a MoFlo (Dako) cell
sorter for a multi-user cell sorting facility as well as 15 years of general flow cytometry
instrumentation (4 years of FACS Canto with Diva software) expertise. Scientific
manager with extensive project and team leadership experience. More than 15 years of
hands on industrial laboratory experience in methods development for cell based assays.
Recognized for successfully contributing to the launching of a USA IND to the FDA
concerning in vivo large animal transplantation device study.
TECHNICAL:
*Currently, was executing daily functions as the lab manager in a new start up laboratory
at Boston University; included the overseeing of smooth daily operations of the laboratory
as well as the establishment of a new tissue culture facility, the purchasing of new lab
equipment for multiple “big ticket items” such as centrifuges, microscopes, digital
cameras, PCR machines, biological storage cabinets (BSC), as well as anything to do with
the flow cytometer.
*Executed daily ELISA’s and immunocytochemical staining of cell lines.
*Worked in a clinical research lab performing multiple flow cytometric profiling including
stem cell work ups on patients undergoing stem cell transplants and T cell subsets markers
for HIV and transplant patients.
*Sole operator of a MoFlo (DakoCytomation cell sorter) three laser system using a
MAPPIT system for the identification of oncology targets (small molecule) and drug
compound studies.
*Cloned cells for the Molecular Technology Group using a cell sorter (MoFlo).
*Oversaw all flow cytometric work including experimental design, sample acquisition, and
analysis of DNA (cell cycle), BrdU, phospho-cell profiling, and apoptotic assays.
*Implemented cell sorting using a FACS Vantage-SE for the isolation, purification, and
expansion of pancreatic stem/progenitor duct cells for the treatment of Type I diabetes.
*Indentified novel surface reagents pertaining to the characterization of progenitor
pancreatic duct cells to be utilized for cell sorting.
*Resolved immunological, biological and safety challenges regarding allogeneic versus
xenogeneic peripheral and central nervous system cellular implantation.
* Accomplished GLP level Safety and Toxicology trials using non-human primates
transplanted with encapsulated cell devices into the striatum and ventricle.
*Developed innovative in vitro and in vivo immune testing of organ-equivalents using
extensive cell culture expertise in human, canine, ovine, and rat systems.

(Technical; continued)
*Designed experimental models to evaluate donor-host interaction in a complex extra-
cellular matrix environment.
*Correlated and executed MHC studies selecting living-related renal and bone marrow
transplant recipients, and screening of cadaveric candidates for both liver and renal
transplantation by HLA-ABC and DR typing, MLRs, HLA antibody screening and
crossmatching.
*Performed all routine Blood Banking duties; included all donor room and blood component
duties as well as typing and crosssmatching patient samples.
MANAGEMENT:
*Executed daily functions as the lab manager to ensure the smooth daily operations in a
start-up laboratory.
*Responsibilities included the purchasing of all laboratory equipment in a new start up lab.
*Scheduled and taught personnel methods to be used on the flow cytometer.
*Generated SOP documents for the transfer of completed R+D projects to manufacturing.
*Instructed technical personnel in newly developed cell based assay protocols.
*Completed a written summation of three years of in vivo large animal model (sheep)
transplantation immunological data that was essential for a successful USA IND
submission to the FDA.
