PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

GENERAL MILLS, INC., Lodi, California • 1984-2007

Fortune 250 company, producer of breakfast cereals, cake mixes, deserts, Bisquick ™,

And pancake mix. The Lodi Plant makes over 225 different products, totaling 30M cases per

year.

QRO Lab Tech III (2000-2007) Managing plants, People, Safety, Quality, and

Productivity Performance.

Maintained expert knowledge over a wide range of food processing platforms from breakfast

cereal, dry mix, snack products, to fruit products and fruit juice blending and package.

Managed union and non-union personnel with regards to: Food Quality, Safety and

Regulatory issues. Managed up to 120 employees on off shifts and weekends as

the sole representative of Management.

Have expert knowledge on Food Safety: Inspections, Allergen awareness and

management, HACCP, AIB Trained.

Complete and through experience with: GMP’s, SOP’s and all guidelines for food

production for the State of California, FDA and USDA

Have vast experience on incoming ingredients, quality assurance and outside

vendor interaction, including vendor validation, inspections and quality complaints.

Enforced all of the above when needed including: proper packaging, code dating,

and the ability to isolate and retrieve product that was out of specification; via SAP

software and other means of product tracking.

Quality Engineer Technician (1991-2000) this title was done away with do to downsizing.

W as the in house Chemist, a role that I held until the end of my career with GMI. This

additional responsibility brought with it the role of maintaining all “wet chemistry” and physical

testing methods that were done at the Lodi plant.

Handled all procurement for the Quality Control Function via Maximo software

Was in charge of: performance of Analytical Results (Accuracy and

Repeatability)

Benchmarked the results of routine analytical methods testing against other labs

in the GMI system. Led the Lodi Plant on the implementation of ISO 9000

standards of laboratory analysis. Consistently, the Lodi lab ranked in the upper

10% of labs in the General Mills system.

Handled Maintenance of all in house Analytical and physical testing

instrumentation in the plant (both in the lab and out in the manufacturing areas)

Trained all personnel on new and existing on all GMI Analytical, and Physical

testing methods.

Was the liaison for the Lodi plant with corporate Quality and R&D on all things

dealing with the physical and analytical testing for new and existing products; to

ensure corporate compliance on audits and communications with regards to

changes, updates etc.

Training, Facilitation, Special Projects:

Assisted in the first completed Japanese high performance work system

implementation in a large food manufacturing plant. Event appeared on the cover

of Fortune Magazine.

Led a continuous improvement team to reduce change over time on allergen

based system sanitation improvements, which reduced change over time by 1/3

saving the corporation in excess of $ 2M annually.

Saved 1.5M-3M yearly through rigid quality control implementation.

Developed original General Mills Inc. (certified) analytical laboratory methods that

are still in use today.

Participated in three Greenfield Start-up Plants for General Mills.

Two of the Three Plant start-ups I was Project Manager for the QC LAB: This

entailed, budgeting, procurement, lab design, installation of lab equipment,

installation of in process quality control equipment, human resources selection,

and the training of both union and exempt employees. In both cases, came in

under budget and returned $ 200,000.

Trained at least 25 Quality Engineers on the basis of their jobs since GMI rotated

QE’s through their facilities every 18-24 months. Over 50% of these engineers

have achieved Quality Manager status at either GMI or at other corporations.

This gave the department stability since I knew the systems, the culture, the

products and the company; far better than the new hires that were promoted to

Quality Engineer.

Performed extensive capability studies on all attributes for all new products prior

to passover control from R&D to QC control. This included several design of

experiments mostly centered, on the more critical control production pathways.

Savings to the company averaged between 1M-2M per Year.

Was the QC Lab Personnel scheduler, key trainer and advisor on new hires and

their ability to perform to prescribed norms.

Worked extensively with the Raw Materials Quality Engineer to create a

reference book on incoming raw ingredients. Trained the Lodi QC personnel on

this after the reference text was completed.

Created and up dated all HACCP Diagrams for the Lodi Plant in Compliance with

GMI standards.

Expert Knowledge in Kosher approval process.

Advanced experience in the management of all food manufacturing allergens and

there control in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Experienced in Continuous Improvement Activities on all levels of Plant
