in supervision, maintenance, leadership, and production roles. As the “go-to” person in every career

position I have held, I have had to wear many hats and master the art of keeping many plates spinning

simultaneously in the air. I strongly believe my experiential skills readily provide your company with

After living many years in St. Louis, Missouri (my hometown), my wife a native Kentuckian and I

have relocated back to the Central Kentucky area so she can care for her elderly family. She is the Firm

Administrator for the Lexington and Frankfort offices of Stites & Harbison, the largest law firm in

Kentucky. There are few printing facilities in the Central Kentucky area providing a lateral or upward

move in my profession (printing). Consequently, I have widened my search for employment with

Central Kentucky industries for a position where my supervisory and/or maintenance/mechanical

experiences are transferable.

I have eight years’ experience as a Quality Control Supervisor for a printing manufacturer of plastic

bank, credit, and store cards. This position required me to have a high security clearance and there

were strict federal and corporate tolerances in manufacturing bank and credit cards. Some of my QA

responsibilities were checking the specs throughout each stage of production and at the end of

production of credit cards for color matching (lamination process changes the printed color), magstripe

application, signature panel application, hologram application and security of said holograms, and the

synchronization of printed material and overall output. At each stage of production, I held oversight to

stop the process and correct human, machine, or raw material errors. At the end of production, all cards

were examined by a crew, of which I supervised and held final QA decision.

Throughout my career, I not only was the lead printer at every facility, but also trained all personnel

within the printing department, and provided press-side technical assistance to the other printers/presses

to achieve the proper ink/water balance, correct striping of ink rollers, appropriate blanket/plate

pressures, and correct finished product in terms of color, specs, and tolerances. I worked in tandem

with supervisors from pre-press through post-production and shipping to determine inventory needs,

backorder situations, and daily/weekly/monthly workflow including necessary overtime to meet

customer/production demands, supply needs, updates, revisions, and changes in the established

schedule.

I have been successful in handling the mechanical needs of this equipment due to my exceptional

mechanical skills. Furthermore, I perform the electrical and extensive mechanical repairs thereby

saving thousands of dollars annually by not having to call in professional repair personnel. Ironically,

the printing equipment are German produced machinery with manuals printed in German! The

language barrier has required that I interpret the drawings and schematics to operate, maintenance, and

repair these presses. Without having machine-shop tools, I have built machine parts from spare parts in

order to get a press (or post-production equipment) repaired and ready for production in quick turn-

around times. Also, I have rebuilt air cylinders, diagnosed, and repaired mechanical and

electrical/electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues. As each company grew, I disassembled old

equipment, reconstructed the production area to handle the electrical/water/exhaust needs, and then

assembled new presses and production equipment. Additionally, I have rebuilt car engines,

transmissions, carburetors, and other motorized equipment. Through my general contractor business, I

have handled residential electrical, plumbing, and other home improvement tasks.

Regarding production experience, I have been the lead pressman at each shop I worked, handling all

phases of production within the printing department. My current company publishes 800 different

music books annually ranging from 16 to 320 pages with a press run of 200 to 40,000 each, along with

CDs, DVDs, their covers and inserts, marketing materials, and catalogs. I also work closely with the

supervisors of the pre-press division including the sales manager, and post-press division, including

bindery and shipping. My responsibilities include effectively organizing the production process of

these publications. I keep five presses running daily, supply the crew with paper, inks, plates, and other

needs by coordinating with all areas of the plant to maintain continuous production. This process

includes prioritizing a publishing schedule that changes daily, maintaining continuous communication

with the pre-press division to assure correct and timely delivery of image needs, managing and ordering

material needs on an on-going and ever-changing basis, keeping high-speed presses continuously

supplied with printing plates, and efficiently moving printed product to post-production, all with

minimal waste and utmost quality in the finished product.

work and it takes me 45-60 minutes travel each way, yet I am the first employee to arrive (and not just

because I open the plant), and the last one to leave. However, in the deepest snow or hardest rain, I will

still be one of the few employees who not only make it to work on time, but will arrive early to shovel

snow off the parking lot. I am the type of employee companies want and am eager to bring my work
