EXPERIENCE
Transportation Analyst, Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., Port Orange, FL July 2007-Mar 2009
o Conducted a wide array of Traffic Impact Studies for new developments located in Volusia and Brevard
Counties, Florida. These studies, which were prepared for concurrency, in support of proposed Future Land Use
changes, or in support of Rezoning, involved conducting trip generation, modeling for trip distribution,
forecasting future year volumes, and conducting roadway and intersection analyses adhering to County and City
Land Development Codes and Comprehensive Plans.
o Conducted traffic study for Samuels Development of Regional Impact (DRI) in West Melbourne, Florida which
is a proposed mixed-use master planned development consisting of more than 1,800,000 square feet of
commercial development and 1,400 residential units. It required extensive coordination with review agencies,
creative evaluation techniques to realistically forecast the trip generation potential of the development. Assisted
in developing a unique approach in an effort to develop a private/public partnership for funding a proposed
regionally significant roadway. Initiated multiple analysis scenarios which ultimately led to a strategic project
approach which may potentially lead to a substantial reduction in the project’s required mitigation from more
than $50 million to $10 million. The analysis involved extensive roadway and intersection analyses pursuant to
the Florida Statues and the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council’s (ECFRPC) Guidelines.
o Conducted transportation mitigation for numerous developments. It involved identification of improvement
concepts for roadways and intersections, cost estimation for such improvements and proportionate-share
determination for each project.
o Evaluated the future traffic operating conditions at the S.R. 421/I-95 Interchange which is the City of Port
Orange’s most critical area of their transportation system. The study ultimately identified short-term
improvements and a $16 million long-term improvement concept needed to enhance the operating conditions at
the interchange. In doing the analysis, traffic volume forecasts were conducted using CUBE and Synchro Studio
7.0 was used in evaluating the traffic operating conditions.
o Conducted signal warrant analyses for several intersections in Volusia County using the Manual on Uniform
Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) Guidelines.
o Conducted access management studies for various developments including the 36-acre Riverwalk development
located in Port Orange. It involved conducting the trip generation potential for the development, determining
the internal capture and trip distribution of the development using CUBE, evaluating the traffic operating
conditions at the access points using HCS+ and Synchro.
o As a consultant to the City of Port Orange, reviewed numerous traffic impact studies.
Played the role of a Task Manager on various projects. Responsibilities included supervising the interns on
o
several tasks, preparing contracts to the sub-consultants, processing in-voice bills, actively involving in pre-bill
meetings, and coordinating with the other team members to complete the projects profitably.
Prepared proposals, contract agreements and work plans for various traffic-related projects.
o
Estimated Transportation Impact Fees for numerous developments throughout Volusia and Brevard Counties.
o
Prepared a variety of transportation planning and traffic operational technical reports and memorandums.
o
Research Assistant, Department of Civil Engineering, Michigan State University Oct 2006-May 2007
Worked for Michigan Department of Transportation to develop a methodology to assess and compare the perceived
gaps in transportation services in Jackson County from the consumers’ perspective, contrasting with the services offered
by public and private providers and determine the appropriate strategies to minimize those gaps.
Graduate Student, Department of Civil Engineering, Michigan State University Aug 2005–Aug 2008
o Conducted a traffic simulation study to evaluate the effect of on-street parking on the capacity of an urban
street. This involved identification of the control characteristics of on-street parking that affects the moving
traffic and development of simulation models to estimate the sensitivity of the speed of the moving traffic to
various control parameters.
o Evaluated traffic impact of a proposed rail over pass on Service Road and Farm Road intersection at East
Lansing. This involved evaluation of the capacity and level of service of the intersections, both, with and
without the presence of the overpass.
o Conducted traffic signal coordination study to improve projected traffic conditions along the southern Farm
Lane at East Lansing. This involved determination of changes to traffic signal timing plans and geometry to
provide adequate traffic progressions and conducting of an Environmental Impact Assessment of the proposed
changes considering air quality, noise and aesthetic aspects.
o Developed multinomial linear regression models that predict traffic generated by fast-food restaurants based on
restaurant and roadway characteristics. And compared the predictions made by the developed models to those
from software promulgated by the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
o Conducted a Traffic Impact Study of American Beauty Corporate Recreation Area on Okemos Road and
Kinawa Drive in East Lansing, Michigan.
Teaching Assistant, Department of Civil Engineering, Michigan State University Aug 2005–May 2006
Worked as a Laboratory Instructor for the course 'Civil Engineering Materials'.
Student Intern, Consolidated Construction Consortium Limited, Hyderabad, India May 2004-June 2004
Conducted cost estimates for the construction of a National Newspaper company, The HINDU, India.
Under Graduate Student, Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Madras Aug 2001–Dec 2005
Analyzed the traffic flow properties at an intersection in Chennai, India, by monitoring of traffic volume counts and
recording of signal timings for various traffic phases.
