OBJECTIVE
An engineering position where my experience, higher education and abilities will be
utilized and add value to organization.
EXPERIENCE
Choren USA, Houston, Texas (September 2008 – May 2009)
Sr. Process Engineer-Chemical
• Responsible for Preparing front end engineering design documents for biomass to
synthesis gas to hydrogen plant for a refinery in South America.
• Prepared engineering documents like PFD, P&ID, Equipment List, Fluid list, Mass
and Energy Balance for entire biomass gasification plant.
• Actively participated in scouting study for plant optimization of biomass to hydrogen
plant.
Range Fuels, Broomfield, Colorado (June 2007-August 2008)
Sr. Process Engineer-Chemical
• Process development of thermo-chemical cellulose to ethanol process from lab to
pilot plant to commercial scale.
• Experienced in running a Devolatization and Reformer Units to make syngas from
wood in a pilot plant.
• Done lot of process development work to improve quality and yield of syngas to meet
specification.
• Developing a Reactor model for a commercial plant using Aspen Plus to optimize
ethanol production by modifying inlet syngas compositions, flow rates and other
process parameters.
• Developed startup and commissioning procedures. Lead development of process and
engineering work to successfully start-up of world’s first cellulose to ethanol pilot
plant.
• Project design packages includes defining project scope to improve production
methods, presentation to steering committee, prepare MOC documentation, modify
P&ID, preparing bill of material, project scheduling and vendor selection of
equipment.
• Successfully implemented projects working at various roles and levels from Project
Lead (team of engineers, field contractors and other project parties) to team engineer.
Project: Cellulose to Ethanol from Waste Wood.
• Designed and set up a process development lab from scratch.
• Designed and built a lab unit for catalyst testing and process conditions for process
optimization. Also lab distillation was setup for separating ethanol from methanol and
higher alcohols and water. Designed and tested a molecular sieve unit for removal of
small amounts of water from ethanol.
• Developed punch list of items for pilot plant. Prepared a HAZOP list for process and
mitigated multiple safety issues.
• Trained operation staff in line with designed technical operating procedures.
• Initiated lab testing protocol to collect and analyze the process data. Improved
processes with gathered data in CC1000, CC400 and distillation units.
• Distilled a fuel grade ethanol from the lab unit. Directing routine experiments in
distillation and catalyst unit. Currently preparing design specification for a pilot plant
distillation unit.
• Guided design teams to develop PFD and P&ID. Authored process specifications of
major process equipment for consultants and engineering teams’ detailed engineering
effort.
Exxon Mobil Chemical Co. Edison, New Jersey (June 1994- June 2007)
Process Development Engineer
• Process development of Poly alpha Olefins lubricants from lab to Commercial Plant.
• Outstanding trouble shooting skills to resolve process and mechanical problems in
Lab/Pilot Plant/ Commercial plant. Lead the commissioning of the commercial plant.
• Actively participated in all Safety Programs and ISO 9000.
Project: Synthetic low Viscosity Poly Alpha Olefins (PAO) Lubricants (1994-2000)
• Developed process and detailed engineering of low viscosity PAO lubricants.
• Converted the batch manufacturing process to continuous process, saving Exxon-
Mobile $10 Mn per year, by developing a continuous reactor and distillation process.
Developed the process from lab experiments.
• Compiled test data, cost and savings information to obtain approval for the
commercial project from Exxon Mobil management.
• Lead the team for commercial deployment of PAO process in Texas Refinery.
Project: BF3 Recovery from Process (2001-2003)
• Pilot tested novel process. New process led to improved BF3 recovery and ability to
maintain environmental compliance, even with increased PAO output. This process
brought about the solution to a long standing emissions reduction problem that
previously remained unsolved for about 10 years.
• Successfully commissioned new process and equipment in Exxon-Mobil's Notre-
Dame DE Graven chon (France) Plant.
• Significant financial benefits were realized with the implementation of this novel
process.
• Replicated the process at another Exxon-Mobil plant, located in Beaumont, Texas.
• Dan Sanders (President Exxon Mobil) cited the successful commercial implementation
of this process as one of the most important achievement in Synthetic Business as a
shining example of advanced technology that can both reduce environmentally
mandated emissions and reduce operating costs. The ROI on this project was 3
months.
Project: m PAO (2003-2007)
• Developed novel processes for production of medium and high viscosity m PAO, with
superior physical properties and performance.
• Invented process to remove catalyst residues, which was the key element of the
success of the project.
• Demonstrated wide ranging feed flexibility and developed processes for making
high viscosity m PAO products that meets or exceeds current PAO performance using
wide spectrum of feed combinations. This was a number one business driver for the
project that led to Exxon Mobil deciding to commercialize the process.
• Scoping experiments to demonstrate that mPAO can be commercially made using a
continuous process, as compared to a less scalable batch process.
• Validated the process by demonstrating commercial viability.
• Manufactured the large sample quantities at a toll manufacturing plant. Samples
generated from a tolling operation were used to conduct a key field trial. .
Safety Leadership at Exxon Mobil:
• Technical contact and leader of the site incident investigation and corrective action
team from 2002 to 2007.
• Successfully conducted incident investigation and suggested corrective actions that
contributed to the exceptional safety performance of process development
department.
• Contributed to HAZMAT team from 1994 to 2005.
Gujarat Alkalis and Chemicals Limited: (April 1985-November 1990)
Project Engineer (Chemicals)
• Managed projects of Salt Up gradation and Soda Ash from basic engineering to
production.
• Developed and prepared detail engineering documents like P&I diagrams, Process
flow diagrams, Mass & Energy balance flow diagrams, Equipment specifications,
Piping & Plant layouts from basic engineering drawing supplied by technology
supplier Krebs Zurich.
• Coordinated vendor selection for all equipment, instrumentation and control
procurement of these plants.
• Supervised construction of plant to maintain compliance with plant drawings and
specifications.
• Assisted in plant start-up and performance guarantee test runs and provide technical
leadership & supervision to operating staff.
