Duties

I work in developmental capacity performing assignments and completing training to gain

knowledge and skills to perform duties in the aforementioned job description. Perform

technically complex duties to review and analyze ambulatory medical data, and code medical

diagnoses procedures. The work requires an extensive knowledge of ambulatory coding,

accreditation references and complex medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. Code

disease and injury diagnoses, acuity of care, and procedures in a wide range of ambulatory

settings and specialties. References used for coding include International Classification of

Diseases, Clinical Modification; American Medical Association Current Procedural

Terminology; Health Care Financing Administration Common Procedure Coding System;

Physicians' Desk Reference; and DOD unique codes. Selection of appropriate codes and

modifiers required to determine codes and references, which describe the primary subsequent

diagnosis.
