EXPERIENCE
MICROSOFT - Redmond, Washington 2000 - 2009
SOFTWARE TEST ENGINEER - Derived significant time savings for SQL database-centered testing
by automating creation of queries which detect and expose data changes in tables of interest.
Drove quality upstream through participation in specification reviews, formal inspections and test
automation. Supported creation of IT teams in India and China through extensive knowledge transfer
and participation in video teleconferences.
MICROSOFT (contract) - Issaquah, Washington 1999 - 2000
SOFTWARE TEST ENGINEER - Verified quality of back-end SQL databases through white-box testing
of stored procedures, schema verification and end-to-end tests combining UI-focused tests with
database-focused tests. Used and updated code for automating white box testing.
MICROSOFT (contract) - Issaquah, Washington 1996 - 1999
SOFTWARE TEST ENGINEER - Improved software quality by developing and executing test plans
and test cases, augmenting when appropriate with automation using Excel VBA, Access, Visual Test,
and T-SQL. Tested both front-end and back-end components of MS Reports, a three-tier decision
support reporting system that allows users to create ad-hoc queries against a number of different
datamarts using the same GUI for all of them. The client worked through a metadata layer on the
middle tier to pull data from numerous SQL Server databases on the third tier. The client wrote results
to Excel Pivot tables, flat Excel worksheets, and Access tables. Testing of middle tier covered stored
procedures, triggers, SQL Executive tasks and database schemas. Isolated and documented bugs.
Verified bug fixes. Verified the implementation of new features, based on functional and technical
specifications and based on widely accepted Windows programming practices.
SSI MICROAGE (contract) - Bellingham, Washington 1996
VISUAL BASIC PROGRAMMER - Developed a front end to a SQL Server 6.0 database using
Remote Data Objects (RDO) in Visual Basic 4-32 bit under Windows 95. Assisted in design
enhancements for the application and for the database.
MICROSOFT (contract) - Bellevue, Washington 1995 - 1996
VISUAL BASIC SUPPORT ENGINEER - Analyzed and resolved programming problems for users of
Microsoft Visual Basic. Enhanced the supportability of Visual Basic by writing and reviewing articles
for the Microsoft Knowledgebase. Tested pre-release versions of Visual Basic and documented bugs
found.
EGGHEAD SOFTWARE - Issaquah, Washington 1993 - 1995
ASSOCIATE SYSTEMS ENGINEER - Streamlined the order placing process by assisting in the
design, development and testing of a Windows-based online ordering system called Egghead
Express. The product used a combination of Visual Basic and MS Access modules working in concert
with programs on Egghead's AS-400 and the General Electric Information Service (GEIS) network.
Earned certification (since expired) as a Lotus Notes Application Developer. Assisted in the design
and testing of another online ordering system, integrating Lotus Notes with Egghead's AS-400, as part
of a pilot program for AT&T Network Notes.
