Developer of an innovative proprietary low-cost mobile VOIP system for unlicensed spectrum.

Hardware Engineering Manager

Managed the System, RF, Digital, and DSP development groups for the development of the xG BSN250 mobile

VOIP base station. Also managed external contractors for both the digital and RF groups. Provided system level

architecture advice and review inputs for air interface design and TX60 handset. Created master and sub-project

schedules and schedule integrations.

• Managed 3 engineering groups, each with a Group Leader, with a total of 16 engineers. Responsible for

guidance, direction, performance reviews, and technical issue resolution

• Architecture consisted of Freescale PowerQUICC and i.MX31 processors and AD Blackfin DSP’s

• Responsible for key talent identification, hiring both permanent and contract employees

• Managed System Engineering with inputs to system architecture and air interface specification

• Created and tracked Master schedules focused on interdepartmental dependencies as well as external

dependencies for BSN250 Mobile VOIP Base Station

• Worked with Cambridge Consultants (UK) on Air Interface Specification and TX60 handset design

• Managed interactions between my groups and the software development groups and external contractors

Global designer, distributor and manufacturer of wireless telecommunications networks, handsets and broadband

equipment with annual sales of $32B.

Principal Staff Engineer (2000 – 2007)

As key member of iDEN / WiMAX Advanced Technology Team, sought out and developed new technologies to

create new products and add new features to existing ones, adding value to the product line. Managed creative

technology projects with multi-disciplinary teams, and promote new ideas to management and customers, acting

as advocate for future technologies, promoting their inclusion in product road maps. Used system-level

simulation tools to investigate and validate proposals for architectures and protocols.

• Developed MOTOtalk, a digital voice / data two way radio protocol for unlicensed spectrum (900 MHz)

which can be embedded in cellular handsets, toys, equipment as well as a standalone radio. Features 1:1

privacy, target acknowledgement, and data capability, and uses frequency diversity for extended range.

o Over 70 million Sprint-Nextel iDEN handsets include this feature as “Direct Talk”

o Ported technology to Motorola’s Business Radio sector, creating “DTR” series radios

• Managed creation and development of “Stealth”, a Freescale single-chip solution for the implementation

of MOTOtalk, which includes both the RF transceiver and digital baseband, including DSP.

• Chaired patent committee for MOTOtalk, and helped develop IPR portfolio.

Senior Staff Engineer (1995 – 2000)

• Member of SAE “IDB” Automotive Passenger Compartment Serial Bus Committee

• Simulated iDEN Packet Data protocol using BONeS leading to creation of PA thermal control algorithm

• Key Architect of iDEN verification environment and end-to-end SPW model.

• Developed first iDEN data module PCMCIA card. Also developed for iDEN packet data.

• Organized internal seminar series, made extensive technology presentations and demonstrations to

customers and senior management.

World-wide, network solutions provider for telecommunications and business applications.

As a member of the Data Services team, key player in defining and integrating products for Wide Area Network
