Professional Experience:

Alion Science and Technology 2007

Senior Inorganic Chemist and Group Leader as part of the team giving the company’s oral presentation to the EPA

as part of the bid for the ESAT Contract in Region 2. As a result of out presentation, Alion won the contract for

Region 2. Worked on-site for the first two weeks upon award to aid in the start-up of the contract.

Alion Science and Technology/ IIT Research Institute. 2001-2006

Senior Inorganic Chemist and Group Leader for the ESAT group under contract to the U.S. Environmental

Protection Agency. Validated CLP and non-CLP type inorganic data packages from contract laboratories as well as

data packages generated internally. Prepared and analyzed water and soil samples collected as part of the Superfund

Program. Analyzed samples for metals by ICP, GFAA, mercury cold-vapor AA, and for various classical wet

chemistry parameters (mainly cyanide, sulfide, TOC,and hexavalent chromium) requiring colorimetric, titrimetric,

gravimetric, and electrochemical techniques. Also conducted field x-ray fluorescence analysis of soil samples at

Superfund sites during the site clean-up phase. As group leader, I organized the group activities and evaluated

personnel performance. Performed air sampling audits as part of the PM2.5 program.

Lockheed Martin Corp. 1996-2001

Worked for the ESAT group as described above. Lockheed Martin Corp. was the contractor at this time.

IEA Laboratories 1993-1994

Inorganic Department Manager for an environmental testing laboratory. Performed inorganic analyses of water,

soil, waste, and TCLP extract samples from industrial clients. Analyzed samples for metals by ICP and GFAA,

mercury, cyanide, and many classical wet chemistry parameters. Reviewed and approved the data generated by the

staff before sending the results to the clients. Performed GFAA method development when a new sample matrix

was encountered. As manager, also organized the group activities and evaluated personnel performance. Also

wrote the budget plan and productivity reports for the department.

Lockheed Corporation 1991-1993

Worked for the ESAT group as described above.

Roy F. Weston, Inc. 1988-1991

Worked as an analytical inorganic chemist.for the ESAT group. Weston, Inc. was the contractor at this time.

Performed audits of laboratories bidding for government work in addition to performing the analyses and data

validation described above.

Jerome Laboratories 1987-1988

Worked as a chemist performing quality control testing and new product formulations for a manufacturer of

cosmetics, toiletries, and fine fragrances. Wrote standard operating procedures for the plant operation.

Baxter-Travenol Laboratories 1985-1987

Worked as an analytical chemist for a pharmaceutical research company analyzing water, serum, blood, saline, and

various medical devices for metals using ICP and GFAA. It was necessary to develop a new analytical method of

analysis for most samples since most sample matrices were unconventional. Also analyzed samples for various wet

chemistry parameters using mainly colorimetric and uv-vis methods.

Sargeant & Lundy Engineers 1980-1982

Chemical Engineer involved in the design of water and waste-water treatment systems in connection with the power

industry. Sargeant & Lundy is a consultant firm which designs power plants.

E. I. Du Pont de Nemours 1979-1980

Chemical Engineer involved in the technical support of the environmental control treatment area of a biochemicals

manufacturing plant. Tasked with developing and bringing new technology to the plant, as well as evaluating

internally produced waste for specific waste-treatment processes.

Education and Training:

1975.1979. Northwestern University. B.S. in Chemical Engineering in June, 1979.

1989-2006. HAZWOPER certification. The 40-hr initial course plus the 8-hr yearly refresher classes.

Additional Experience:

December 1996 to Present. Piano instructor. For 5 years I have been providing private piano instruction to

children and adults at the Edgebrook Music Academy in Chicago. Prior to that I gave private piano lessons in

people’s homes.
