Responsible for the software development organization of the Cable IP Business Unit. Team

comprised of over sixty engineers and managers located in US and China. Responsible for all

development and sustaining activities for the Cuda® Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS)

and FastFlow® broadband provisioning server product lines. Managed cross-functional teams

consisting of software and hardware engineering, product management, marketing, quality

assurance, operations, manufacturing, and technical publications.

Delivered numerous releases of the DOCSIS based Cuda product on time and with very

high quality. Managed entire program including budgeting, planning, tracking software and

cross-functional teams from inception through delivery.

Stabilized quality of product software by devising a plan based on focused review of field

issues, analysis of existing architecture, and extreme stress testing. Drove team to resolve

over one thousand defects in a three-month period resulting in successful stabilization of the

product.

Reduced cost by transitioning all of the Cuda sustaining activities to a group in Shenzhen,

China. Successfully trained and prepared the China team to take on all sustaining activities

for IP Cable products in less than a six month period.

Led the roll out of TL-9000 Quality Management System in Cable IP software

organization.

Managed SQA team through several releases.

COMMERCE.TV CORP. - Braintree, MA 2000-2001

Director – Software Engineering

Built an engineering organization to develop embedded applications and ‘walled garden’ web

servers for Commerce.TV’s interactive television commerce products. Responsible for all hiring,

planning, budgeting, project management, vendor relationships, and interface with certifying

organizations.

Successfully built and delivered an interactive television system for deployment in cable

television multiple service operators (MSOs). System was deployed in several small MSOs and

supported by the Engineering organization.

Managed embedded application development work outsourced to an external software

development vendor.

Reduced cost by replacing the work done by vendor with an in house team. Hired the team

of embedded applications engineers to develop the client application written in C/C++ and run

over an embedded RTOS on cable television set-top boxes.

Hired and managed a team of web developers to develop Commerce Web Servers for XML

based version of the product. Web servers implemented interactive television using

middleware solutions from Liberate Technologies, Worldgate, Spyglass, and Power TV.

MOTOROLA, Broadband Communications Group - Mansfield, MA 1997-2000

Engineering Manager – Cable Modem Software

Managed the Cable Modem development team and was responsible for all of Motorola’s cable

modem software development.

Successfully developed and delivered the software and firmware for Motorola’s first

certified DOCSIS Cable Modem.

Successfully developed the industry’s first Universal Serial Bus (USB) enabled Cable

Modem. Influenced the development of the USB interface standard with standards body

(CableLabs).

Established a team at the Motorola Singapore Software Center that was responsible for all

cable modem software sustaining activities.

Liaison to industry test facilities (CableLabs, @Home, etc.) for cable modem products.

Managed the certification submissions of numerous versions of the cable modem.

Trained and served as CMM internal auditor and played a key role in SEI CMM

certification activities for software development. Achieved CMM level 3.

VENTURCOM, INC. - Cambridge, MA 1993-1997

Engineering Project Manager

Hands on management of a team of software engineers in the creation and release of embedded real-

time versions of Unix and Windows NT and development tools suites.

Managed the development and delivery of custom tools for generating scalable embedded

versions of the Unixware OS. (C, Korn Shell).

Lead the verification for FAA compliance of the VENIX version of Unix System 5
