Senior Programmer Analyst
• BCBS of Nebraska HIPAA project: Implemented the changes required to
Nebraska’s claim payment system to support the HIPAA mandate. Tasks included
adding new fields to multiple screens, editing those fields, and passing them through
the system. Extensive unit and system testing was performed.
• BCBS of Nebraska claim payment system support: Designed, coded, and tested
enhancements to the system. Provided support for daily operations.
• Great West Life HIPAA project: Worked with GWL staff to implement the
HIPAA mandate.
IBM GLOBAL SERVICES Mar. 2000 to May 2002
Independent Contractor
Provided a multitude of systems support services for BCBS of New Jersey’s claim
payment and interface systems. Services included researching claim miscalculations,
implementing system enhancements, and assisting the operations group in production
support.
The work on claim miscalculations involved recreating the problem, researching the
system documentation and code, applying the appropriate fix, recommending any
necessary design changes, unit testing, and creating documentation for the client.
These changes involved online processing including Medicare, new coinsurance, and
medical policy.
Involved with coding and unit testing several system enhancements. Included in
these were changes for Medicare Version 6 and ITS 8.2.
Responsible for generating data extracts, creating ad hoc reports, researching
regression problems, and assisting in production support.

Worked on a Y2K compliance project in the Data Warehouse group. Was involved
in analysis, coding and testing a batch COBOL based extraction tool, which obtained
data from seven different source systems.
Researched and implemented coding fixes for numerous data quality issues.
KEANE, INC. Aug.1994 to Aug. 1998
Senior Consultant
Participated on an outsourcing project in the Financial Systems group at Sears.
The main focus of this project was to gain an understanding of the seven systems
covered by the agreement and demonstrate to the client the ability to provide
adequate support. As the most experienced member of the team, assisted with
presentations and project management. Actual tasks included providing 24X7
support, processing user requests, and evaluating fallout from product upgrades. The
systems were a mix of BAL, APS-COBOL, CICS, and DB2.
• While working on Baxter Healthcare’s HR/Payroll systems, work centered on
three major projects; adding employees from acquired companies into the system,
accommodating a spin-off of the corporation, and bonus processing. All work
involved using COBOL, EZ-trieve, JCL utilities, and Focus.
• Supported the Order Processing group at Baxter Healthcare, where most work
centered on government compliance issues on their IMS DB/DC system.

• Worked on the Claim Payment System for BCBS of New Jersey. The main focus
was programming and unit testing an early version of ITS processing.
• On the BCBS of Minnesota project, worked on the development of the Provider
Administration system. In addition to coding a number of online screens and some of
the batch Capitation process, also developed a number of standard routines for this
new system.
• Post implementation, continued working on the Provider Administration system
by researching and coding modifications, and resolving production issues.
• As part of the team installing Point of Service processing into the Claim Payment
system for BCBS of NCA, specifically was responsible for programming and unit
testing Referral and Authorization processing, along with fine-tuning the Provider
Data Interface.
