Services, Bermuda (see below) re-located to London in July 1993 and acquired the
controlling interest in Peter Blem Adjusters Limited in order to facilitate an entry into
Consultancy services required by the London market
• Alongside the control of all aspects related to an Insurance Company in 'run-off' (Walton),
PBA offered a number of consultancy & training services to the London, US and European
markets
• As per I&RS (see below) my emphasis was on Reinsurance Reassessment, Litigation Support
(including discovery), Commutation Review & Negotiation plus Reserve and System Analysis

September 1992 to July 1993 - Reinsurance Consultant
• I & R Services became responsible for the run-off of Walton Insurance Limited in March
1991. During my time with them I was jointly responsible for the management of all aspects
related to an Insurance Company in Run-Off. In addition we offered Reinsurance consultancy
services to the London, US and European markets

collections etc.)

• Responsibility for the production of a thorough and comprehensive report to the client
including analyses of reinsurance contract terms and representations, the operation and
management of the reinsurance agreement and accounting / claims management issues
• For both Insurance and Reinsurance Services and Peter Blem Adjusters I was involved in
detailed reviews with regard to Capital Acquisitions and had a number of clients for whom
we offered Consultancy Advice in technical and run-off matters. Marketing was also an area
in which we all played a part
BCS Management Limited, Bermuda
July 1990 to July 1992 - Reinsurance Consultant
• BCS (Bermuda) controlled a small number of Captive Insurance Companies and serviced the
reinsurance needs of a number of local companies plus those from London, US and European
markets with local interests.
• The Merrett Syndicate at Lloyd’s owned BCS. The Bermuda operation was closed down in
1992
Walton Insurance Limited, Bermuda
April 1987 to July 1990 - Reinsurance Auditor
• Walton was a Captive Insurance Company of Phillips Petroleum Corp. (USA) and wrote a
significant amount of Property, Casualty, Marine and Aviation reinsurance from the US,
London and European markets over a period of almost 10 years from 1973
• I was recruited as a member of the four people Audit team responsible for the management
of a company that had been in run-off since 1983. Our activities included the identification
of contracts that would benefit from an Inspection of Records; undertaking such inspections
and reporting on the same to management plus preparing case documentation and assisting
in Commutation Negotiations, together with Litigation support where necessary
• Involvement with the staff responsible for the day-to-day 'run-off' administration included
the monitoring and analysis of Reinsurance Protection and cash collection activity (credit
control). Considerable savings on booked liabilities were effected due to Commutation,
Large Loss Accumulation procedures / Reinsurance collections and detection of contractual
errors &/or breaches. Over an extended period, numerous inspections were undertaken in
the US, London and Europe
Mercantile & General Reinsurance Company plc, Cheltenham and London
January 1977 to March 1987 - Training Co-ordinator, Technical Accounting and Underwriting
Administration Supervisor
• At the time of my departure I was the Departmental Training Co-ordinator responsible for
the training of in the region of 160 staff with regard to Reinsurance Contract Wording,
Types of Treaty and Technical Accounting principles
• Other areas of responsibility included an involvement in Personnel recruitment; cash control
(technical accounts processing, checking and settlements) plus Underwriting Support and
Liaison
• My early years with the company were spent reviewing Reinsurance Technical Accounts (all
classes and types of reinsurance) and liaison with Underwriters
• I developed an interest in Training, which resulted in periodic secondments to the
Underwriting departments in London where I assisted with the contractual technical reviews
during renewal and performed in-house analyses of contracts in run-off
• For the five years prior to my departure I was in charge of a group of eight people. They
were responsible for the verification and processing of technical accounts received from
Cedant’s and Brokers as well as the reconciliation of Broker Settlement accounts. I was
responsible for all Recruitment and Appraisal issues for this team directly plus as part of my
role as Training Co-Coordinator; I was involved, to a lesser degree, in Recruitment and
Appraisal issues for the whole of the Technical Accounting and Claims area of 120 staff.
During this period I attended several courses along the lines of Supervisory Management etc.
• As part of the team involved in the Mercantile & General 'International Reinsurance Course',
for the years 1983 to 1986, I organised and presented twice-yearly two day sessions on
Reinsurance Accounting Principles and Practices
