Established pharmacy to serve the greater Hartford area, managed all aspects of the business
including finance and accounting, marketing and business planning, staffing and training,
established policies and procedures and day-to-day operations. Built staff to 45 employees.
Consulted with physicians regarding patient and drug issues, devised and executed marketing
strategies and participated on the case management team as supervisor of medication
management programs. Interacted with HMO’s and other insurance providers on billing and
reimbursement matters.
Significant Accomplishments:
• Built organization to sales volume of $24 million, ten times the national average for similar
independent pharmacies, filling 1,400 prescriptions per day in contrast to 175 for an
average pharmacy.
• Designed and created marketing materials as a tool to drive growth. Utilized mass media,
became prominent in community affairs, and was elected to several posts in the prestigious
professional society, the Connecticut Pharmacists Association.
• Developed the Med Box Compliance Program that allowed psychiatric patients to re-enter
the community by enabling them to take their medications properly. Demonstrated
procedure to patients, collaborated with local Visiting Nurse Associations and physicians
and designed patient-friendly forms for the dispensing of medicine. The program currently
serves 1,500 patients, and compliance is in the 90th percentile with low rates of
hospitalization.
Received the Connecticut Pharmacists Association “Pharmacist of the Year Award” for

accomplishments toward reversing the cutbacks imposed on community pharmacies by
insurance companies. Wrote a health column in the Hartford Courant, testified before state
legislature committees, and was a weekly guest on the WDRC radio program, The Mary
Jones Show, providing information on medications.
