• Automation and control engineer for AK Steel’s hot mill providing continuous on-site

presence since April 2002. Expertise includes PLC’s, hydraulic and fluid controls, drive

control, instrumentation and measuring devices.

• Eliminated $125,000/month of operating costs by designing and installing new controls to

automatically detect production instability.

• Reduced production delays due to roll changes by 5% by optimizing PLC sequencing code

and preventing drive over-current conditions.

• Improved dimensional tolerances of final coil by modifying the automatic gauge control and

automatic flatness control for use with new X-Ray and laser gauges. Reduced flatness defect

standard deviation by 55%.

• Added special control features to improve quality for rolling stainless steel.

• Reduced lube oil losses by designing new PLC-based pump control, tank monitoring and

alarm system. Provided maintenance technicians with new HMI screens and alarms.

• Developed system test procedures (Factory Acceptance Test Plans) and associated software

simulation for numerous rolling mill projects. (Typical system had over 5,000 I/O points.)

• Provided system engineering design, system test leadership, and installation support to steel

mill customers in US, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey, South Africa, and Thailand.
