Highlights of University of Phoenix Activities:
Major "hits" include the TODAY SHOW, Early Show, CNNfn, USA Today and Associated
Press, all for the online university's graduation ceremonies in July - after all major coverage of
college commencements was over -- and in 117-degree heat. By differentiating the online
university from competitors and delivering its messages to its core constituents on a proactive and
consistent basis, build the institution's reputation as a premier educational resource. As a result of
my efforts, the university has been covered extensively in business, consumer, print and
broadcast media, including US News and World Report, Business Week, The Wall Street
Journal, and The New York Times. Messages to potential students and faculty of nursing,
technology and management programs have been widely disseminated in vertical industry press
outlets.
Results: enrollment soared from 6,500 to 300,000 in the past six years.
L’Oreal USA : Managed the account for GolinHarris supervising media outreach for L’Oreal’s
Women in Science program, its Diversity Program and its eStrat Challenge, working with
national universities and media to gain visibility for the educational and support for women and
minorities through its outstanding college competitions and support for female scientists
worldwide. Results ran in the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, New York Sun,
CUNY-TV, Metro New York, AM-NY, CMO Magazine, Fast Company, Diversity Magazine,
Black Issues in Higher Education, and others.
St. John's University, NY (1977-1999)
AVP and Director of News and Information
For more than 20 years, led the news bureau of one of the largest Catholic universities in the
U.S., working with all colleges and divisions. Developed publicity and marketing plans. Handled
crisis management with senior administrators, including the President, specifically during the
Lacrosse incident where student-athletes were accused of sexual assault, in addition to other
campus incidents that drew media attention citywide.
Coordinated Queens - People and Places contest, an exhibition that toured New York City and
JFK and LaGuardia airports.
Worked with business, law, science, medical, education reporters, producers and editors to garner
major publicity for the university, its programs and people. Lobbied at both city and state levels.
Crafted media resources directory, a resource for media used to tap St. John's faculty and
administrators as experts for their fast-breaking stories. On call 24/7. Served as University
spokesperson.
Served as Chairperson of the Queens Tobacco Control Task Force as board member of the
American Cancer Society
Provided public affairs leadership and key networking with numerous non-profit organizations
through volunteer work as member of non-profit boards.
Highlights:
Arranged for major national coverage of new possible treatment for cocaine addiction
working with Pharmacy Faculty and Brookhaven National Labs. Worked with
Brookhaven and arranged for NBC News and The New York Times coverage.
Publicized the 125th anniversary of the University in all major New York media,
