Product Designer and Developer. Conceived, designed and developed new toys.
• Conceived, designed and developed to production a new anti-spill cap for children’s bubble
solution bottles. U.S. and foreign utility patents will issue in 2009. This replaced an anti-spill top

• Developed and took to production a 44 SKU children’s gardening program exclusive for Wal-
Mart which involved 16 new tools. Start to OBS 16 weeks and all items were on time passing all
Wal-Mart testing protocols.
• Developed a new line of toy cars using cap gun caps for propulsion (now in production). This
was a particularly difficult project due to the configuration of the combustion chambers for power
and to meet toy safety regulations.
• Introduced and implemented Solidworks 3D modeling and improved time to build and quality of
models. Files were subsequently used for tooling thus shortening tool build time and tool cost.
• Introduced cost engineering and project scheduling spreadsheets to calculate concept cost and
track key milestone dates. Worked on many toy safety and compliance issues and patent issues.
Maui Toys, Inc. 1/2005 to 2/2007

Product Design and Development. Manage all toy design and development activities, domestic and
offshore, to take products from concept to production.
• Managed a team of 1 product engineer and 2 packaging designers. Supervised product
development activities with 2 engineers in our Hong Kong office.
• Traveled to and worked directly with our vendors in China on new product projects. Travel
schedule was 5 trips per year.
• During the first year at Maui, designed, engineered and took to production 25 new products.
• Involved in all aspects of toy safety and during my tenure, worked on RoHS compliance issues.
Wild Planet Toys, Inc. 1/2000 to 1/2005

Engineering. Managed all development engineering activities, domestic and offshore, to take products
from concept to production.
• Set development to production schedules to support marketing and sales order ship dates.
• Set up and maintained a cost engineering system to cost new toy concepts.
• Designed and developed a line of premium toys for a major food company gaining more
exposure for the company. These toys later became one of the top sellers for three years.
• Developed many RF and IR toys. Responsible for development of all Spy Gear, Wild Planet’s top
brand, and Room Gear items.
• Improved communication using IM and desktop video conferencing with our Hong Kong office
resulting in shorter development cycles.
Mattel, Inc. 11/1995 to 11/1999
El Segundo, CA
Staff Engineer, Mattel Vendor Operations Asia. Engineering liaison between El Segundo Design and
Development and Mattel Hong Kong for Large and Small Doll Group (Cabbage Patch, Polly Pocket,
Doodle Bear and Disney licensed) and Hot Wheels Design Development groups. Managed projects from
turnover of design package in U.S. to production start at vendor factories in China.

Automotive Modeler. Fabrication of prototype concept show cars for automotive studios from clay
models. Modeled exterior and interior parts using studio sketches and lofting drawings for Mitsubishi,
Honda, Toyota and Subaru.

Designer, Product Design & Development. Responsible for research, product design and development
activities of consumer office products manufactured and sold worldwide. Primary duties comprised all
phases of the product development process from concept generation to manufacture. Products
produced in a variety of materials with primary emphasis on injection-molded plastics and large panel
blow molding for computer furniture. Many of the products I designed are still sold under the Newell
Rubbermaid brand.
