CAREER PROFILE

UBE Automotive North America Sarnia Plant, Sarnia, Ontario, Canada

August 2005 – August 2009 CAE/FEA Engineer

Optimized wheel structural design and shortened design cycles through FEA

classical methods and Nastran/Patran.

Predicted wheel’s fatigue life to shorten tests using Nastran/Patran. Carried out the

analysis for test results and provided corrective actions to optimize design.

Cooperated with customers to provide CAE/FEA results and upgrade current models

to meet the requirements.

Investigated on wheel’s fatigue and fracture using classical fatigue theory and

fracture mechanics. Addressed initial cracking locations through material micro-

structure analysis.

Carried out CAE/FEA, thermal analysis, on die casting process, from fluid to

solidification, using EKK. Simulated casting process to analyze temperature

distributions and air trap.

Performed 3D design and develop wheels for GM, Nissan and Toyota from concept

through production using Unigraphics and Catia. Carried out 2D detail drafting for

wheel structures using Unigraphics and AutoCAD.

Analyzed customer returns and provided FMEA, root-cause analysis and timely

corrective action and preventive actions as appropriate and feed back to design.

Advanced Machining Lab, University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, New

Brunswick, Canada

August 2004 – August 2005 FEA Engineer

Carried out FEA on machinery components to shorten design cycles using Ansys and

Abaqus.

Performed 3D design and develop machinery components from concept through

production: rotary cutting tool, tool holder, bracket and workstation of NC lathe

using Unigraphics.

Managed and maintained the sketches, data and machinery components production in

high speed machining.

2

DaimlerChrysler Co. Ltd., China

July 1996 - December 2001 Design Engineer

Involved in sheet metal design for the protective heat shield of the catalytic converter

in exhaust system (new Cherokee model in China). Analyzed its heat and vibration

resistance based on FEA to shorten the design cycle by 40%. Carried out plastic

components design and develop: plastic tank, clips etc. from concept through

production.

Performed sheet metal design and develop in automotive body components (new

Cherokee model in China): hood, door panel, door assemblies, wind shield panel,

bumper and fender assemblies using Catia and Unigraphics followed DFMEA and

PFMEA, APQP team work. Tracked the design defects and carried out corrective

actions.

Designed and developed the brake components (new Cherokee model in China),

using Unigraphics and AutoCAD based on DVP&R, FMEA, APQP team work.

Coordinated design and production planning and implementation program review in

concept, feasibility, cost and budget in cross-functional teams. Provided design

review meetings to carry out design, BOM and cost estimation, prototype, test and

schedule.

EDUCATION

2002-2004, M.Sc in Mechanical Engineering, University of New Brunswick

Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada

1992-1996, B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering, Beijing Polytechnic University,

Beijing, P. R. China

AWARDS

February 2002, Membership of Automotive 21, Canada

August 1998, Best Staff of DaimlerChrysler Co. Ltd., China
