facility, since the nearest Ophthalmologist was located 150 miles east in
Gallup, NM at the USPHS hospital. Because it was unpractical and
uneconomical to transport patients such a long distance for minor
surgical and medical treatment,
Performed Vision and Trachoma screenings hundreds of children at
dozens of elementary schools on the Navajo and Hopi Indian
Reservations.
Assisted Ophthalmologists at the Gallup, NM USPHS hospital with some
of the very first IOL and Corneal Transplant Procedures at that time.
Worked General Ophthalmology clinic at the hospital with OMDs in
treating ocular disease.
Participated in Rounds and Grand Rounds with other hospital staff.
