Summary

I am a versatile communications professional with 30 years of experience,

currently as an independent contractor to clients in a variety of fields. I am expert at

publications and meeting promotion, and I manage projects from concept through

distribution. I believe that I am especially effective at organizing multiple contributors

into a cohesive team that works together to achieve communications objectives.

Experience

Freelance communications - August 1984 to present

As an independent contractor, I am often hired for a one-time project or to

temporarily fill in for an employee on extended leave. Due to client satisfaction with my

work, however, this often results in longer-term assignments. For example, a three-

month agreement to edit a computer users group journal grew into a three-year

relationship. Also, an initial hiring to complete the annual meeting promotion for an

insurance trade association resulted in nine years of full-service work with overall

responsibility for internal and external communications.

I am well qualified to:

• Develop content, organize contributors, write, edit and coordinate design and printing

for newsletters, journals, magazines, Web sites and special purpose communications

• Define markets, develop strategy and implement event or other targeted promotion

• Prepare meeting collateral materials, such as programs, syllabi and slide shows, to

integrate with overall communications plans

• Recommend and deliver products that achieve objectives and meet budget

Public relations manager -- July 1979 to July 1984

I managed publications and conference promotion for a number of association

clients at SmithBucklin, Chicago, IL. SmithBucklin is the world’s premier association

management firm.
