Highmark is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association

which is a national organization of 38 independent regional health insurance

companies in the United States. Both organizations trace their histories to health

plans that were created around the same time in two different parts of the U.S. The

evolution of managed health care in the United States is intimately linked to that of

the Blue Cross-Blue Shield plans.

Blue Cross and/or Blue Shield insurance companies are franchisees, independent of

the association (and traditionally each other), offering insurance plans within defined

regions under one or both of the association's brands. Main objective of the project is

strategy by centralizing data into a DB2 repository for access by multiple

applications, Drive down cost by eliminating expensive licenses for LEGACY

database management systems and related tools thereby reducing the risk and

workload associated with system rewrite and manual conversion. The project is a

conversion project from IMS to DB2, involves conversion of IMS calls to DB2

calls

and pre-paid hospital services to 1.8 million Americans. Since a NMF billing process

is offered on the COSMOS platform, United Health Group, by offering the NMF billing

process on the United Platform, will allow MEDICA ASO customers to continue this

service as they move from COSMOS to the United Platform. Not only will this allow

the continued use of the NMF process but will also allow the seamless reporting of

NMF banking reports to ASO customers for charges relative to the NMF and the

associated claims.

Analyzing the requirements for new screens and prepared Technical Specification

Designed and developed COBOL-CICS screen (user interface) programs/modules

Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) mandated the adoption of

standard unique identifiers for health care providers and health plans. The purpose of

these provisions is to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the electronic

transmission of health information. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services

(CMS) has developed the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System

(NPPES) to assign these unique identifiers. This project deals with unique identifier-

NPI to be incorporated in the whole system of United Health Care.

Analyzed the BRD requirements, Designed and developed three online STBK-

NPI screens using COBOL, CICS, BMS maps, JCL and came up with zero defects

in system testing phase.

Audit certificate consists of nine sections for which data is extracted from DB2 and

VSAM individually depending on the input which we get from MQSeries into

Commarea and extracted data is put into Commarea from where MQSeries takes

the data.

Responsibilities:

Involved in the development of login module for authentication of the customer

Streamlined the batch cycle, by adopting various methods, on long running

batch jobs. E.g. Split long running jobs into parallel processes wherever possible.

use the first digit of the account number to determine the product brand among

different product types are to be modified. On the whole, the objective of AMEX-EE

project is to eliminate hardcode and parameterize account processing.
