Dear Sir or Madam:
I am writing in response to your post advertising the need for a Project Coordinator. I
come to you with a keen mind for project management and a sharp eye for great art in all forms.
I’d like to offer my services as a candidate possessing experience encompassing material sourcing,
marketing and product release schedule management. I consider this position at 411 Creatives to
be an opening that plays heavily on my strengths: specifically my ability to balance multiple
projects and my aptness with business-to-business and interdepartmental communication.
Currently, I am employed at the Hearst Anthropology Museum in Berkeley. Here I fill a
role overseeing the procure-to-pay process for several departments, and the overall operation of
the museum store. As the museum’s purchasing agent I partner with department heads to
establish material and supply needs, and assure sourcing requirements are met in a timely
manner. The museum’s conservation, preparation and exhibit design departments are all engaged
in perpetual, concurrent projects hinging around a detailed exhibition schedule. Through my seat
on the museum’s program department I am an active participant in planning this schedule and
forming project work flows. I research suppliers, obtain quotes, receive materials and formally
serve as liaison between the museum and all vendors.
By employing my skill with face-to-face engagements, telephone and e-mail
correspondence, I maintain optimal working relationships with outside sources, and facilitate the
flow of materials for multiple scheduled projects simultaneously. Additionally, my accounting
functions and daily use of the university’s BFS system (an ERP adapted from PeopleSoft) have
made me extremely adept in financial coding and account reconciliation. In my engagement at the
Hearst Museum, time management, project prioritization and cross-departmental collaboration
are all skills I utilize regularly; and that I know equip me to succeed in the position of Project
Coordinator.
The following resume also demonstrates my background as the head of operations of two
different Rasputin Music locations. These were high volume multi-million dollar retail fronts,
specializing in music, DVD’s and video games. My position at these stores was a pivotal role
between numerous distributors and Rasputin’s customer base. I had ownership of the duty to
maintain optimal stock levels on all store product, as dictated by new release schedules rotating
weekly. Conducting business and maintaining relationships with wholesalers, distribution and
shipping companies was an ongoing obligation.
As General Manager, and previously as a buyer, I assured the proper ordering, delivery
and placement of store product across my entire seven and a half years at Rasputin Music. These
were tasks that required constant coordination between company departments, vendors and
upper management. The time I spent at Rasputin Music grants me an ease with prioritizing
multiple, deadlined projects –that I would love to put to work for 411 Creatives.
My work history should display that I am an individual who flourishes in both a large-
scale business environment, and a more intimate workplace where having a hand in all
developments is necessary. I am accustomed to performing in many different roles as dictated
by conditions that change frequently. My ease with dynamic work environments is something I
largely attribute to the communication skills I’ve developed over the past 10 years in a customer
specific industry.
I see this opening as a unique opportunity to build on my existing experience and
abilities, and concurrently promote the production art. I would love to work for 411 Creatives, and
would greatly appreciate the opportunity to excel in this role. I have no doubt that my abilities will
prove beneficial to you company and aid in the work that lies ahead. I thank you for your
attention, and I hope avidly to hear from you.
Sincerely,
Oliver Fernandez.
