Independent bookstore-café’
Responsible for the day-to-day management of the business: book and retail food
purchasing, accounting, financial reporting, on-site food preparation and serving,
organizing author visits and book signings, public relations, and business
promotions. Maintains and optimizes company website news and event updates.
UPDATE: This amazing, successful, acclaimed shop was devastated by the
flooding of the Illinois River in September 2008 and was closed definitively.
Implements information programs to maximize Common Ground
BookCafe’s public outreach through a variety of media sources that cover
local cultural and historical events.
Arranges press conferences and interviews with local and regional media;
organizes press coverage for
bookstore-cafe programs and other events; uses DVC, digital camera,
digital recorder and other technology to facilitate media coverage and
record events and post to website.
Develops and maintains high-level contacts with editors, journalists, and
writers from a wide variety of publications; writes press releases and book
reviews for local authors.
Develops and updates information and multimedia material on the
Common Grounds BookCafe website.
