PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY
Mechanical Designer in manufacturing environment with over 15 years of
ProEngineer experience. Wildfire 3.0 and Pro/Intralink.
Experience with highly toleranced and complex mechanical and electrical parts and
assemblies.
Versatile in design materials including plastics (injection molding), metal parts
(machined, forged and investment casting) and sheet metal parts.
Experience with complex Surfacing.
Patent received and 2 Disclosures received, demonstrating both design skills and
creative input in the design process.
INDUSTRIAL, AUTOMOTIVE, MILITARY, OFFICE FURNITURE & HOME
APPLIANCES
Industrial, Automotive and Military Components
(Graco, L-3 Communications, Borg Warner and Austal)
Designed numerous Industrial and Automotive spray guns and applicators.
Designed electrical assemblies, electrical-mechanical enclosures, spray packages
and managed a cart project for Dual Pump Proportioning System.
Managed cart design for District Managers to demonstrate the “Value Mix
Proportioner”. This project was received on very late notice yet met an aggressive
deadline. Process included design of cart with Marketing input, procurement of
parts from vendors (sheet metal, tubing, welding, coatings and components),
testing and assembly for delivery to customer. The cart had to house up to 3
proportioning pumps, heaters, hoses, spray guns, control panel, etc., and had to be
easily disassembled for transport to demonstrations. Cart carried up to
126 pounds of weight and was 6 feet high.
Lead designer for “Ultra-Lite In-Line Flow Gun”, an ergonomically enhanced,
easily serviced sealant and adhesive dispenser. Dispenser was leading edge with
lowest trigger force of any in its class. Trigger lock was my design and unique to
the company.
Lead designer for power supply and alternator assembly on “Pro Xs Electrostatic
Guns” (20, 40 and 60kv). This involved a great deal of electrical design work.
Designed needle assembly and replaceable cartridge for “AA Alpha” gun. In
charge of testing and modifying spray tips to get new soft spray tip design. Spray
tips are an extremely high tolerance and precision product.
Designed turbo charger wheel for diesel trucks using complex Surfacing.
Coordinated component redesign for military tank application under extreme
time constraints, preventing production shutdown. Managed meetings, directly
involved with vendor, testing, assembly personnel and program director. Provided
tolerance stack-up to ensure component viability. New design was cost effective
and required less assembly time.
Complex modeling for tank turret drive systems including castings, gears and
sub-assemblies.
Analysis and modeling (using surfacing) of military tank cooling fan. Took cmm
data from manufactured fan to compare to drawing design model.
Designed to Military Specifications, piping for 400 foot military ship (LCS).
Orchestrated work, assigned to other designers, to release 60 spray packages
including pumps, carts, hoses, fitting, spray guns, etc. In charge of sourcing hoses,
fittings and accessories to complete packages.
Made visits to customers experiencing setup and operational difficulty. Translated
customer input into design changes to enhance product.
Analysis of competitive products by evaluation of materials, manufacturing
processes and packaging.
Office Furniture and Home Appliances
(Haworth and Maytag)
Patent received for adjustable arm design on award winning Zody Task Chair. This
arm movement combined vertical motion with the ability to lock into place at
optimum customer height, while retaining esthetic appeal.
Disclosure received for new chair mechanism concept. Concept and design were
turned into a prototyped chair. Managed prototype build with Model Shop
personnel. Voted best concept during a review with Engineering and Marketing
teams.
Designed mechanisms, seat backstop assemblies, chair bases, casters, fixed arms,
adjustable arms, armcaps and various other seating components.
Led effort to fix newly released product design problems with pneumatic assembly
on chair. Put short and long term fixes in place to ensure no interruption in chair
production. Coordinated with engineering, vendors, test lab and manufacturing to
make design changes. Instituted procedures to secure proper parts and methods
were used in assembly.
Designed parts with complex Surfacing.
Responsible for Service Parts documentation for Zody Task Chair. Coordinated
efforts with Engineering, Manufacturing and Documentation Control.
Developed an Industrial Designers concept sketch into a completely designed,
aesthetically pleasing and functional dishwasher basket assembly.
